Business Components Module Menus and Buttons

This section describes the menus and buttons available in the Business Components module.

To access

On the ALM sidebar, under Testing, select Business Components.

Important information

Tip: You can access the Business Components menu bar from the Business Components module by pressing the shortcut key Alt.

Version Control: Additional menu commands and buttons are available in a version control enabled project. For user interface details, see Version control.

Description

<list of recently used favorite views>

Favorites

Displays the four most recently used favorite views in the Business Components module.

You can define the number of views displayed on the menu by setting the FAVORITES_DEPTH site parameter in the Site Configuration tab in Site Administration. For details, see Set configuration parameters.

Add to Favorites

Favorites

Opens the Add Favorite dialog box, enabling you to add a favorite view to your private or the public folder. For details on working with favorites in ALM, see Favorite views.

Change Status

<right-click menu>

Changes the status of a component without switching to the Details tab. For details on component statuses, see Business Components Module Fields.

Clean unused components

Components

Simultaneously removes all components in the Obsolete folder that are not being used by any test or flow.

Available from: Obsolete folder, when the folder is selected in the tree

Collapse

View

Collapses all branches in the component tree.

Component Details

<right-click menu>

Displays the Component Details dialog box, enabling you to display and modify the details of the selected component.

For user interface details, see New Component/Component Details Dialog Box.

Copy URL/Paste

Edit

Copies a selected component and pastes its URL as a link. The component itself is not copied. Instead, you can paste the address into another location, such as an email or a document. Clicking the link opens ALM and takes you to the component. If you are not already logged in, ALM first prompts for login details.

Copy/Paste

Edit

Copies selected components and/or folders (including subfolders) within the same project or across projects.

Note:

  • Defect linkage data are not copied.
  • The root folder cannot be copied within the same project.
  • If you paste a component that has the same name as an existing component, the suffix _Copy and a sequential number are added to the end of the name.
  • When you copy a component between projects, associated entities can be copied using one of three methods. For user interface details, see Paste Components/Component Folders to Target Project Dialog Box.
  • Version Control: Before copying checked out entities, follow the guidelines described in Version control.
Cut/Paste

Edit

Moves selected components or folders to a different location in the component tree.

The root folder cannot be moved.

Tip: You can also move a component to a new location in the component tree by dragging it.

Delete

Edit

Removes the selected folders or business components from the component tree. The contents of a removed folder are also removed.

You cannot delete the root folder.

Any removed component that is unused is permanently deleted.

Any removed component that is used by one or more business process tests or flows is moved to the Obsolete folder in the tree.

Tip: Business components can be restored from the Obsolete folder. For details, see Business Components Module Menus and Buttons.

Note: To check whether any business process tests or flows use a component, select the component and click the Dependencies tab.

Version Control: Deleting a business component deletes all previous versions of the component.

Expand All

View

Expands all branches in the component tree.

Favorite bar

View

Displays the Favorite bar.

Filter bar

View

Displays the current filter.

Filter/Sort

View

Enables you to filter and sort the business components in the component tree. For user interface details, see Filter Dialog Box. For a list of fields available for filtering and sorting, see Business Components Module Fields.

Find

Edit

Searches for a component in the Components module. For user interface details, see Find Dialog Box.

Find Next

Edit

Searches for the next item that meets the previously defined search criteria.

Go to Component

Components

Opens the Go To Component dialog box, enabling you to find a specific component by the component ID. You can open the details dialog box for the component or you can go to the component's location in the tree.

Note: You can only go to components that are in the current filter.

Graphs

Analysis

Lists the graphs you can generate for component data. Select a predefined graph, or launch the graph wizard.

Live Analysis

Analysis

Provides a graphical representation of data related to business components related to the currently selected component folder. For user interface details, see  .

Most Recently Used

Analysis

Displays the most recently viewed reports and graphs in the Components module.

New Component

Components

Opens the New Component dialog box, enabling you to add a component. For details, see New Component/Component Details Dialog Box.

New Component Folder

Components

Opens the Create New Component Folder dialog box, enabling you to add a folder under a selected folder.

Syntax exceptions: The folder name cannot contain two consecutive semicolons (;) or include any of the following characters:  \ * ^

Organize Favorites

Favorites

Opens the Organize Favorites dialog box, enabling you to organize the list of favorite views by changing properties or deleting views. For details on working with favorites in ALM, see Favorite views.

Private

Favorites

Lists the favorite views that are accessible only to the user who created them.

Project Reports

Analysis

Lists the predefined reports you can produce on component data. For details, see  .

Public

Favorites

Lists the favorite views that are accessible to all users.

Refresh All

View

Refreshes the component tree so that it displays the most up-to-date business components.

Rename

Edit

Renames folders and business components in the component tree.

You cannot rename the root, Obsolete, or Component Requests folders. You also cannot rename components in the Obsolete folder.

Syntax exceptions: A component name cannot include the following characters: \ / : " ? ' < > | * % ! { }

Replace

Edit

Replaces a field value in the tree. For user interface details, see Replace Dialog Box.

Report Selected

<right-click menu>

Displays a report of the selected components.

Restore

Components

Restores the selected components from the Obsolete folder to their original folder, if the folder still exists in the tree.

You can view the folder in which the business component was located when it was last deleted in the Original Location field. The date that the component was deleted is displayed in the Deleted on field.

Note: To restore components whose original folder no longer exists, select the component in the Obsolete folder and drag it to the appropriate folder in the component tree.

Send by E-mail

Components

Opens the Send E-mail dialog box, enabling you to send components by email to recipients selected from a list or to the author of the component. For user interface details, see Send E-mail Dialog Box.

Text Search

Edit

Opens the text search pane in the lower part of the Components module window, enabling you to search for records in predefined fields. For user interface details, see Text Search Pane.

Update Selected

Edit

Opens the Update Selected dialog box, enabling you to update a field value for multiple selected components. For user interface details, see Update Selected Dialog Box.
