Project planning and tracking (PPT) calculations

This topic describes how to schedule project planning and tracking (PPT) calculations for your ALM projects.

Overview

PPT tracks application readiness and displays the status of your release in the form of a scorecard. The scorecard monitors and tracks how well each milestone is being met on a daily basis. You run PPT calculations to view the progress in the scorecard.

You first schedule PPT calculations at the site level, and then enable scheduled calculations at the project level.

You can also manually trigger PPT calculations at the project level to refresh project results, without waiting for the next scheduled calculation. For details, see Details tab.

Enable and configure PPT calculations at the site level

When setting up PPT calculations, you first enable and configure PPT calculations at the site level. Once this is complete, you can enable scheduled calculations at the project level.

To enable and configure PPT calculations at the site level:

  1. In Site Administration, click Tools > Project Planning and Tracking.

  2. In the Current Status section, check the current status of PPT calculations.

The current status contains two parts:

    • Enabled/Disabled. Indicates whether PPT calculations is enabled for your site.

    • Active/Inactive. Indicates whether the scheduled calculation is currently running.

To manually refresh the current status, select the Manual Refresh option and click Refresh Now.

To have ALM automatically refresh the current status, select the Automatically Refresh In option and specify the automatic refresh rate in seconds.

  3. To enable PPT calculations, click Enable Calculation. To disable PPT calculations, click Disable Calculation.

  4. In the Scheduling section, schedule automatic PPT calculations for your entire site.

Automatic Run Calculations on Select this option to enable automatic PPT calculations at the site level.
Daily Calculation Start Time Specify when to start the daily automatic PPT calculations.
Calculation Recurrence Specify the recurrence of automatic PPT calculations.
Abort Calculation After Specify when to end automatic PPT calculations.
  5. In the Purge section, specify which calculation data to purge.

By default, data older than 120 days is purged.

  6. Optionally, go to the Advanced section to change the number of parallel calculations or to change the speed of the calculations.

Override Settings Select this option to enable the advanced settings.
Number of Engines Set the number of parallel calculations that can be performed concurrently on the entire site.
    Engines Throttle

Change the speed of scheduled PPT calculations. The speed ranges from 1 to 10.

"1" indicates a slower processing speed and minimum database stress. "10" indicates a faster processing speed and maximum database stress.

  7. Click Save.
