Export tests
You can export tests only or export tests with design steps.
Export tests only
You can export all or selected tests as a text file, Microsoft Excel worksheet, Microsoft Word document, or HTML document.
To export tests only:
-
Open the Test Plan module in Test Grid view.
-
To export all tests, right-click a test and select Export > Export All.
To export selected tests, use the Ctrl or Shift key to select the target tests, right-click any of the selected tests, and select Export > Export Selected.
-
In the Export All/Selected Grid Data dialog box, the Save as type field, select the type of the exported file.
Only the test fields that are set as visible columns are exported.
Export tests with design steps
You can export selected tests, along with their design steps, to Excel. This makes it easier for you to view and batch update test design steps in Excel.
Note the following limitations:
-
Images and attachments in the tests or design steps are not exported.
-
Called tests in design steps are displayed as plain text.
-
Formatting in rich text fields are not reserved.
To export tests with design steps:
-
Open the Test Plan module in Test Plan Tree view.
-
From the test plan tree, select the tests you want to export, right-click any of the selected tests, and select Export Selected Tests with Design Steps.
To export all tests under a test folder, right-click the folder, and select Export Selected Tests with Design Steps.
Note:
-
You can export up to 5,000 records to Excel, with each test and design step counted as an individual record.
-
You cannot export tests in the Recycle Bin or Unattached folder to Excel.
-
-
In the Export Options dialog box, select whether to use a custom template, and click Export.
Option Details No Template Exports all test fields and design step fields to which you have the view permission. If some fields are hidden using Data Hiding, they are not exported.
This is the default option, and also the recommended option if you export tests to Excel for the first time. You can work on the exported file to create your template by removing the columns you do not want to export.
Custom Template Enables you to select an Excel file as a template and export only the fields that are included in the template.
To use another template, click Upload Custom Template.
To stop using a custom template, click Remove Custom Template. The next time you export tests, the No Template option is selected by default.
Note: Make sure of the following when creating your template:
-
Leave the first row for test fields and design step fields.
-
Avoid empty columns before any field you want to export, otherwise, fields after the first empty column are not exported.
-
-
Give the exported file a name.
-
Wait until the export completes.
