Desktop Client

Desktop Client is a fully functional client, including release management, requirement management, test plan, test lab, defect management, data analysis and reporting. It also enables you to customize your project and workflow.

Start Desktop Client

You can run the same Desktop Client using either of the following:

  • (Recommended) ALM Client Launcher. It is a lightweight and flexible application that enables you to run Desktop Client on any Windows machine, independent of Internet Explorer, Active X technology, and administrator permissions.

For details, see Start Desktop Client using ALM Client Launcher.

  • The Microsoft Edge browser with IE mode enabled.

As long as IE mode in Edge is supported, running Desktop Client in this mode is supported.

For details about how to access the system using Microsoft Edge IE mode, see Access Desktop Client from Edge IE mode.

Desktop Client modules

Module

Description

Analysis

Includes the following modules:

  • Analysis View: Enables you to create graphs, reports, and Excel reports.

  • Dashboard View: Enables you to create dashboard pages, in which you can view multiple graphs in a single display.

Management

Includes the following modules:

  • Releases and cycles: Enables you to define releases and cycles for the application management process.

  • Libraries and Baselines: Enables you to define libraries to track changes in your project, reuse entities in a project, or share entities across multiple projects.

Requirements

Includes the following modules:

  • Requirements: Enables you to manage requirements in a hierarchical tree-structure. Requirements can be linked to other requirements, tests, or defects.

  • Business process models: Enables you to import business process models, and test the quality of the models and their components. Access to this module is dependent on your product license.

Testing

Includes the following modules:

  • Test Resources: Enables you to organize your test resources by defining a hierarchical test resource tree, and define dependencies between resources and tests. Test resources can be associated with tests.

  • Business Process Testing: Depending on your product license, you may also have access to the Business Components module. This module enables subject matter experts to drive the quality optimization process using Business Process Testing.

  • Test Plan: Enables you to develop a test plan and design tests for your application. A good test plan helps you assess the quality of your application at any point in the application management process. Tests can be linked to requirements and defects.

  • Test Lab: Enables you to create test sets that includes tests of your choice, and run manual and automated tests in your project to locate defects and assess quality.

  • Build Verification Suites: Enables you to define a suite of automated functional test sets bundled together with a single performance test (called a build verification suite) to provide an end-to-end deployment and testing solution.

  • Timeslots: Enables you to reserve testing resources for the purposes of running a test or for performing maintenance tasks on them.

  • Test Runs: Enables you to view and study the results of test instance runs, test set runs, and build verification suite runs.
Lab Resources

As a user assigned to a project that has the Lab Extension enabled, you can use the Lab Resources module to view and manage lab resources and automate deployment schemas.

Includes the following modules:

  • Testing Hosts. Enables you to manage the allocation and availability of hosts for performance and functional testing.

  • AUT Environments. Enables you to manage AUT environment parameters which can be used for performance and functional testing.

Defects

Enables you to add defects, determine repair priorities, repair open defects, and analyze the data.
