Assign editors and browsers

You can specify which application the desktop client will use to open a particular type of a Dimensions CM request or item when you select it for browsing and editing.

Set the editor and browser options for requests

You can set the default browser and description editor for requests.

To set the editor and browser options for requests:

  1. In the desktop client, select Tools > Preferences and select the Editors tab.

  2. Under Category, select Requests.

  3. To set the default browser, In the Default field, enter the path to the application, or use the browse button to navigate to the application.

This is the application that the client will use if one has not been specifically set for a particular request type. It is recommended that you select a default application, otherwise you might receive an error message stating that "a default editor has not been set" when performing certain actions.

  4. To select the description editor, in the Description field, enter the path to the application, or use the browse button to navigate to the application.

This is the editor that the desktop client will use for editing the action descriptions and detailed descriptions of requests.

Note: The action description and the detailed description must consist of ascii text, so the editor needs to be appropriate to this.

  5. To select an editor for a request type:

    1. Select the request type from the Type list.

    2. In the Editor field, enter the path to the application, or use the browse button to navigate to the application. To unset the selected editor and use the default editor, click Reset To Defaults.
