Exclude a machine from NV

In some situations, you might need to exclude machines that could affect the virtualization emulation in unintended ways. When you exclude a machine, virtualization is not applied, and its network affects are not included in the NV data.

Exclude a machine from NV

To exclude a machine from NV, you add the IP address of the machine to an IP filter. You can add the address to a global IP filter or a local IP filter.

Global IP filter

A global IP filter applies to all virtual locations in a scenario or test. Virtualization is not applied to network traffic if an IP address in the global IP filter is either the source or the destination of the network traffic.

To add an IP address to a global IP filter:

  1. In Controller, in the toolbar, click the Show Virtual Location Settings button .
  2. In the Virtual Location Settings dialog box, click Common Settings.
  3. In the Virtual Location Editor, in the Exclude these IPs field, enter the IP address you want to exclude and click the Add button .

To delete an IP address from the excluded list, hover the mouse over the address and click X.

Local IP filter

A local IP filter applies to a single virtual location in a scenario or test.

To add an IP address to a local IP filter:

  1. In Controller, in the toolbar, click the Show Virtual Location Settings button .
  2. In the Virtual Location Settings dialog box, select a virtual location from the list and click Configure.
  3. In the Virtual Location Editor, in the Runtime options area, click Edit.
  4. in the Exclude these IPs field, enter the IP address you want to exclude and click the Add button .

To delete an IP address from the excluded list, hover the mouse over the address and click X.

Examples of machines to exclude

Consider the following examples of machines to exclude.

  • The Controller machine. If the Controller machine is not excluded, it might affect the results of the actual scenario run.
  • Deployment and software upgrade servers.

  • Servers that run and store scripts on a shared network drive.

  • A machine with atypical network characteristics. For example: Users operate an application that accesses a number of servers. All servers are located far from the users, except for a single server that is located close to the users. The nearby server should be excluded from NV.
  • In a multi-protocol scenario that includes a web server and a database server, where information from the database server is not required as a part of the load test. In such a case, the database server should be excluded.

Machines excluded by default

The following machines are excluded by default:

  • MI Listener and proxy server machines

  • A machine running SiteScope
