Configure NV profiles with the Network Editor

When you configure a virtual location in Controller, you can set the latency, packet loss, and bandwidth parameters. If a virtual location requires additional emulation parameters, you can create an NV profile using the NV Network Editor.

NV Network Editor overview

NV Network Editor lets you define a complex NV profile and save the parameters in a NV profile file. You can then import the parameters from the file into Controller to configure a virtual location. For details on the available parameters, see NV profile parameters.

Each NV profile file that you create with NV Network Editor can include multiple flows. A flow is a set of parameters that defines a network. When you import parameters into Controller, you specify from which flow to import the parameters.

NV Network Editor is installed as part of the NV for Load Generator installation.

Create an NV profile

Create an NV profile using NV Network Editor.

To create an NV profile:

  1. In the Windows Start menu, select NV Network Editor.

Tip: You can open the NV Network Editor from a browser window using the following format:

http://<NV for Load Generator host IP>:<NV for Load Generator port>/Shunra/networkeditor/

  2. In the NV Network Editor, click New.
  3. Click Add new flow.
  4. Set the client and server IP ranges. You must set at least one client IP range and one server IP range in order to save the profile. These IP ranges are not used in the scenario or test, so it is not necessary to specify actual addresses.

    1. On the Client page, click the Add + button and set a client IP range.
    2. On the Server page, click the Add + button and set a server IP range.
  5. To enable packet capture, click the Packet List button and select Enable packet list capture.
  6. (Optional) On the Client Gateway and Server Gateway pages, configure gateway parameters. For details, see Configure gateway parameters.
  7. On the WAN page, configure the WAN parameters. For details, see Configure WAN parameters.
  8. Click OK. The flow appears in the Flow Summary list.
  9. Add more flows as needed.

To edit or delete a flow, select the flow from the list and click the Edit button or Delete button . To delete all flows from the list, click the Delete all button .

  10. Click Save. The NV profile is saved as an .ntxx file.
