Network Virtualization
You use Network Virtualization (NV) to enable testing of point-to-point performance, by incorporating real-world network conditions into your load testing and performance testing processes.
NV overview
The characteristics of a network are influenced by a variety of factors. One factor that has a significant effect on the character of a network is the geographic locations of the clients and the servers in the network. For example, consider a server based in New York. This server is accessed by clients that are based in London and in Sydney. One can expect the London-New York network to behave at least somewhat differently from the Sydney-New York network. The difference in behavior between the two networks may be significant.
Incorporating NV into your scenario enables you to generate more realistic results. You can configure Vuser groups with specific network effects, depending on the actual routes and characteristics of the networks. For example, you can define virtual locations representing New York, London, and Sydney, and then run a scenario that emulates network traffic between New York and London, and New York and Sydney. As a result of this, your scenario performs in a more realistic environment that better represents the actual deployment of your application.
When you develop a scenario or test, you specify which virtual location is associated with each Vuser group or with each load generator. The virtual location defines the network conditions that are emulated when the Vusers run.
In Controller, the NV monitors display metrics collected during the scenario run. For details, see NV monitoring.
After the scenario run, using Analysis, you can group the scenario results by the virtual location name. For information on grouping metrics, see Filter and sort graph data. You can also use the NV Insights report to analyze the results of a scenario run. For details, see NV Insights report.
NV can be used in conjunction with IP spoofing. For details, see Multiple IP addresses.
Installation
If you did not install the NV components as part of the product installation, you can run the NV installation manually at any time.
The default installation folder is C:\Program Files\OpenText\NV\.
For details, see Install.
