Connect to a dedicated VPC

You can request that OpenText Core Performance Engineering provision cloud-based load generators for your load tests in an AWS virtual private cloud dedicated just for you. You can then connect to the dedicated VPC using AWS Direct Connect, AWS VPC Peering, AWS VPC PrivateLink, or AWS Transit Gateway, enabling you to consider these load generators as part of your own network.

Note: Allocating a dedicated VPC may require an additional cost. For details, contact your account manager or sales representative.

Connect using AWS Direct Connect

Use AWS Direct Connect to connect to a dedicated VPC when your Application Under Test (AUT) is located on-premises and not publicly available. The following diagram shows the basic architecture for using AWS Direct Connect to connect to a dedicated VPC.

Connect using AWS VPC Peering

Use AWS VPC Peering to connect to a dedicated VPC when your AUT is located in your AWS account and is not publicly available. The following diagram shows the basic architecture for using AWS VPC Peering to connect to a dedicated VPC.

Connect using AWS PrivateLink

Use AWS PrivateLink to connect to dedicated services running on your VPC when your AUT is exposed as a service endpoint on your AWS account and is not publicly available. The following diagram shows the basic architecture for using AWS PrivateLink to connect to an endpoint service on your AWS account.

Connect using AWS Transit Gateway

AWS Transit Gateway provides a hub-and-spoke design for connecting VPCs and on-premises networks (Over Direct Connect). Use AWS Transit Gateway to connect to a dedicated VPC when you have multiple VPCs or on-premises networks in which your applications are deployed, and are connected via a Transit Gateway.

The following diagram shows a basic sample architecture for using AWS Transit to connect to a dedicated VPC.

Request use of a dedicated VPC for your tenant

To have your OpenText Core Performance Engineering tenant configured to run load tests using a dedicated VPC, contact your OpenText representative for additional information.

Note: A dedicated VPC is applicable for a specific AWS region. You must request a dedicated VPC for each region you want to use in a load test.

Configure a load test to use dedicated VPCs

After your OpenText Core Performance Engineering tenant has been enabled to run load tests using a dedicated VPC, configure the test to use the required locations.

  1. From the Load tests page, open the Test settings pane. In the Load generators section, select the Use Dedicated VPC checkbox.
  2. In the Load distribution pane, select the Cloud tab and then select and configure the required locations.

Note: Only the AWS regions for which a dedicated VPC has been enabled are displayed and can be used.

  3. Continue to configure and run the load test as normal.

Notes and limitations

The following notes and limitations are applicable when using a dedicated VPC:

  • Single user performance is not supported.
  • You cannot collect transaction response time breakdown data.

  • You cannot use multiple IP addresses on load generators.

  • A dedicated VPC must be configured for each region you want to use in a test.

  • You can only run a test using the regions for which dedicated VPCs have been created.
