Dynatrace AppMon monitor

The Dynatrace AppMon monitor (previously referred to as the Dynatrace monitor) provides information on the availability and performance of software applications and the impact on user experience measured by Dynatrace AppMon, an APM (Application Performance Management) tool.

Note: Dynatrace AppMon is no longer supported by its vendors. To align with this, this monitor has been removed from LoadRunner Enterprise 2021 R2 and later versions.

Dynatrace AppMon dashboards and dashlets

Using Dynatrace AppMon's dashboards and dashlets you can get insights into your full application stack, in the form of deep transaction tracing, synthetic monitoring, real user monitoring, and network monitoring.

A dashboard represents a specific view of one or more Dynatrace AppMon data sources. A dashboard is comprised of dashlets, the building blocks of a dashboard that contain specific types of data (in the form of a graph or data tables).

Note: Only dashlets that are represented as graphs in Dynatrace AppMon are available in LoadRunner Enterprise during the performance test run.

Set up the Dynatrace AppMon monitor

Available in versions: LoadRunner Enterprise 2021 and 2021 R1 only

  1. Prerequisites

    • For the supported server versions, see the Integrations section of the System Requirements guide.

    • If your monitor accesses a server outside of your internal network, you may need to set up a web proxy to collect data from it. For details, see Use a proxy server.

  2. Configure the Dynatrace AppMon monitor from the monitor profile

    1. Select a resources folder

Select a resources folder for the monitor profile in the resources tree, or create a new folder as follows:

      1. From the LoadRunner Enterprise navigation toolbar, click and select Monitors (under Assets).

      2. Click New Folder and enter a name for the monitor resources folder.

    2. In the test resource tree, select an existing monitor profile, or click New Monitor Profile and create a new monitor profile.

    3. In the Monitor Profile page, click Add Monitor and select Dynatrace AppMon.

    4. In the Dynatrace AppMon page, enter the server details:

      UI Elements

      Description

      Server

The name or IP address of the server whose resources you want to monitor.

      Port

The port number of the Dynatrace AppMon server.

Default value: 8020 for Dynatrace AppMon (HTTP) and 8021 for Dynatrace AppMon (HTTPS)

      Use HTTPS

Specify if you are using a secure HTTP connection.

      User Name

The monitored server's user name, if relevant.

      Password

The monitored server's password, if relevant.

  3. Click Get Counters to display a list of available metrics and counters per metric from the selected Dynatrace AppMon application, and select the relevant measurements that you want to monitor.

When you select a dashlet, all measurements of the dashlet are automatically selected.

For detailed information on the performance measurements that Dynatrace AppMon can monitor, refer to the Dynatrace AppMon documentation.

To work with Dynatrace AppMon monitors, there should be access from LoadRunner Enterprise to the Dynatrace AppMon Server REST interfaces, which by default use port 8020 (for HTTP) and 8021 (for HTTPS).

  4. Associate the monitor with your test

For details, see Step 4: Associate monitors with your test.
