Configure LeanFT to work with Mobile Center using SSL

Relevant for: LeanFT 14.01. For LeanFT versions 14.02 or higher, see Test mobile apps.

If Mobile Center is configured to work in secured mode, you must set up LeanFT to work in secured mode as well.

Secured mode can be achieved by using a self-signed certificate (Windows only), or a trusted certificate.

  1. Prerequisite: Obtain the Mobile Center certificate

    1. Contact your Mobile Center administrator or security expert to obtain a copy of the base64-encoded certificate file used by your Mobile Center server.
    2. LeanFT only works with base64 encoded certificate file that have .pem extension. If the file extension of the certificate file is not .pem, change it to .pem.
  2. Install an SSL certificate on the LeanFT computer (Windows only)

Note: Do this step if you are using a self-signed certificate. If you are using a trusted certificate, skip to the following step.

To use SSL when connecting LeanFT to Mobile Center, you must install an SSL certificate on the machine where the LeanFT runtime engine is installed.

    1. On the LeanFT machine, open Internet Explorer and navigate to the Mobile Center server using the following syntax:

      https://<server_name_or_IP_address>:port

      For example: https://16.54.185.180:8443

Internet Explorer displays a message about security issues with the website's security certificate.

Click Continue to this website (not recommended).

    2. Install the certificate:

      1. On the message page that opened in the previous step, select Certificate error > View certificates > Install Certificate.

      2. Install the certificate using the wizard.

Select Place all certificates in the following store, and then click Browse.

      3. Select Trusted Root Certification Authorities, and complete the wizard.

If a security warning appears, click Yes to confirm the installation.

    3. In Internet Explorer, refresh the Mobile Center server site and verify that there are no SSL certificate-related errors.

Note: In most cases, SSL-related errors are generated by the operating system.

    4. Run a test to verify the connection. LeanFT should now successfully connect to the server.

    5. Continue with Configure the LeanFT runtime engine.
  3. Configure the LeanFT runtime engine

Copy the .pem file that you obtained earlier to the <LeanFT installation folder>\certificates folder. If this folder does not exist, create it.

Note: There may be multiple .pem files in the certificates folder. LeanFT will use the relevant certificate file.
