Manage user accounts with scripts

The User Management tool enables you to perform user-related tasks on the Mobile Center database.

You can perform the following actions:

  • Create a new administrator
  • Assign administrator permissions to an existing user
  • Change an existing user's password
  • Reset a user's forgotten password

To run the User Management tool:

  1. Make sure that you are a root, hpmc, or MCadmin user.

  2. For Windows, under the Mobile Center installation, make sure you have admin privileges. Navigate to the server\bin folder and run user_management.bat.

For Linux, change directory to your Mobile Center installation's server/bin directory and run ./user_management.sh.
  1. Select the task you want to perform.

Note: When creating a password, the password must be 6-20 characters, and include at least one uppercase English character, one lowercase English character, and one digit.

    1. Enter 1 to create a new administrator:
      • Enter the user name (email) of the new administrator.
      • Enter a password for this new administrator.

      • Specify the project to use for this administrator.

The new user is added to the list of Admin users in Mobile Center.

    2. Enter 2 to assign administrator permissions to an existing user:
      • Enter the name of the user (email) to whom you want to assign administrator permissions.

The user is added to the list of Admin users in Mobile Center. For details, see the information on User management in Admin tasks.

    3. Enter 3 to change a user's password:

      • Enter the user name (email).
      • Enter the new password.

The user's password is updated in Mobile Center.

Operators can reset passwords from the Operators Management grid. For details, see on Project Management. Users can change their own passwords from the user drop-down menu in the masthead.

Note: After an administrator resets a password, for example when it was forgotten, the user will still need to wait the default locking time interval of 15 minutes before logging in again.

Only for projects with the early access multi-project feature enabled:

Enter 4 to create a new user as an operator (only):

  • Enter the user name (email) of the new operator.
  • Enter a password for this new operator.

Enter 5 to assign operator permissions to an existing user:

  • Enter the name of the user (email) to whom you want to assign operator permissions.

The user is added to the list of operators in the Operators Management screen. For details, see the information on Project Management.
