In the LICENCES tab of the Administration menu, you can view and manage the Mobile Center licenses.
Select License Management in the left panel to see information such as the number of active licenses, their expiration dates, their device capacity, and the license type.
You can connect as many devices as you want to Mobile Center, however, the number of devices that can use Mobile Center at the same time (regardless of the type of activity) is determined by the license capacity.
Install a license
To open the License Management page, click Administration in the right of the masthead, and click the LICENSES tab.
In the Add a new license section of the License Management page, add a license in one of the following ways:
- Paste the license string into the text box and click Upload text to send the new license to the server.
- Click Upload file to select the .dat file containing the license.
Note that If you upload two licenses of the same type, the license with the earlier expiration date will be shown in the Active section.
When you install a Mobile Center license, the license capacity (number of devices that can be used concurrently) is added to the General bucket. As administrator, you can allocate license quotas. By allocating quotas you ensure that workspaces have concurrent runs available, eliminating the need for them to compete with each other for license capacity. You can allocate more license capacity to a specific workspace during peak testing time, or limit another workspace from consuming excessive license capacity.
Note: Quota Allocation is available only with a Trial, Enterprise, or Ultimate license. For more details, see Mobile Center editions.
The General bucket provides a buffer for peak times, enabling a workspace to continue testing without interruption, even if the license quota for that workspace has been reached. Using a simple toggle, you can allow or restrict a workspace from consuming additional license capacity from the General bucket, once it reaches its quota. Note that if you do not allocate license quota to a specific workspace and you also restrict that workspace from consuming from the General bucket, users assigned to the workspace will not be able to run any tests.
Allocate license quotas to workspaces
Select Quota Allocation in the left panel of the LICENSES tab to set, view, and adjust the quota allocation of the license capacity per workspace.
The grid provides an overview of license consumption. You can view the quota allocated to each workspace, as well as how many licenses are being consumed from a particular workspace and from the General bucket at any point in time.
License consumption when using quotas
When using versions 14.50 and above of UFT , LeanFT, or Sprinter, you connect to a specific Mobile Center workspace. You can select only devices and apps from this specific workspace, or from the Shared Assets. When you connect within the context of a specific workspace, the license will be consumed from the quota of that workspace (even if the device selected is a shared device). If no devices or apps were assigned to your workspace, you can access those in the Shared Assets.
When connecting to Mobile Center using earlier versions (versions below 14.50) of the testing tools, the connection is not within the context of a specific workspace but rather a unified view of all devices to which you have access. (All devices in the Shared Assets, as well as devices in all workspaces to which you have been assigned.) In this case, the following guidelines apply to license consumption:
|User is assigned to:||License consumed from:|
|One workspace only||The workspace quota.
If no quota was allocated to that workspace or if the quota has been reached, the license can be consumed from the General bucket, provided that a quota is available and that General bucket consumption is set to Allowed.
|Multiple workspaces, the device selected is assigned to a specific workspace||
The quota of the workspace to which the device is assigned.
If no quota was allocated to that workspace or if the quota has been reached, the license is consumed from the General bucket, provided that a quota is available and that General bucket consumption is set to Allowed.
|Multiple workspaces, the device selected is in the Shared Assets||Random selection of one of the workspaces to which the user is assigned.|
Note: When using the Early access features for multiple projects, licenses are controlled by operators in Project Management and not administrators.
A clock is said to be tampered with, when the current access time is earlier than the last access time. The current access time is the current time in the system when the license key is being used, reported, or acted upon in the license store. The last access time is the last time the license key was used, reported, or acted upon in the license store.
When Mobile Center detects clock tampering, you will no longer be able to log into Mobile Center. Any new license that you will upload will be ineffective.
To allow your license to be operable after clock tampering:
- Stop the server.
- Return the clock to the original date before the change.
- Start the server.
