Attach a URL

In some cases, it may be more convenient to attach a URL instead of an actual file. This is useful if the file is very large or if you want to reference content in an external storage location.

To attach a URL:

  1. Navigate to the entity for which you want to add a URL attachment.

  2. On the Attachments tab, click Attach URL .

  3. Enter a name for the attachment and a valid URL.
  4. Click Import.

ALM Octane adds the link with the upload information to the Attachments tab.

View and download attachments

You can view attachments inside ALM Octane or download them for viewing externally.

View attachments

You can view attachments in the following ways:

  • In a grid, click the Attachment icon. This displays the attachment preview and shows the upload and size information.
  • In an item's document view, select the Attachments tab. Each attachment is displayed with the size and upload information. Click an attachment thumbnail (Board view) or an attachment ID (Grid view) to preview the file.

Note: Attachments that can not be previewed are automatically downloaded.

By default, you can preview images, videos, and some basic file types.

Your admin can also enable previewing Microsoft Office files, or other files for which browsers do not have embedded previews, by adding their file extensions to the ATTACHMENTS_PREVIEW_FILE_EXTENSIONS parameter. For details, see Configuration parameters.

Note: Previewing Office files, or other files for which browsers do not have embedded previews, requires installing a third-party browser extension. Example of Google Chrome extension for Office files: Office Editing for Docs, Sheets & Slides.
