This topic describes how to work with attachments in ALM Octane.
Attach a file
You can attach files to work items.
To attach a file:
Open an item for which you need to add an attachment.
On the Attachments tab, click Attach .
Select the files you want to attach.
ALM Octane supports the following file types by default:
jpg bmp png word doc docx msg xml xls xlsx ppt pptx zip txt wmv mp4 m4p mkv vob log wrf fbr jpeg
The selected file is attached to the item.
In some cases, it may be more convenient to attach a URL instead of an actual file. This is useful if the file is very large or if you want to reference content in an external storage location.
To attach a URL:
Navigate to the entity for which you want to add a URL attachment.
On the Attachments tab, click Attach URL .
- Enter a name for the attachment and a valid URL.
- Click Import.
ALM Octane adds the link with the upload information to the Attachments tab.
You can paste images in memo fields and comments. The pasted images are saved as attachments of the item.
You can view attachments inside ALM Octane or download them for viewing externally.
You can view attachments in the following ways:
- In a grid, click the Attachment icon. This displays the attachment preview and shows the upload and size information.
- In an item's document view, select the Attachments tab. Each attachment is displayed with the size and upload information. Click an attachment thumbnail (Board view) or an attachment ID (Grid view) to preview the file.
Note: Attachments that can not be previewed are automatically downloaded.
By default, you can preview images, videos, and some basic file types.
Your admin can also enable previewing Microsoft Office files, or other files for which browsers do not have embedded previews, by adding their file extensions to the ATTACHMENTS_PREVIEW_FILE_EXTENSIONS parameter. For details, see Configuration parameters.
Note: Previewing Office files, or other files for which browsers do not have embedded previews, requires installing a third-party browser extension. Example of Google Chrome extension for Office files: Office Editing for Docs, Sheets & Slides.
On the Attachments tab, you can use the buttons in the upper-right corner to switch between the following attachment views:
Attachments are displayed in a list. You can sort attachments by ID, Name, Creation time, Last modified, Description, and Author. You can also select and reorder columns, or search attachments by name or description.
Attachments are displayed as cards on a board with a thumbnail preview. Click a thumbnail to zoom in further.
Tip: In the preview mode, you can page through the attachments using the page numbers at the bottom.
