Portfolio types
A portfolio type provides a way to manage sets of portfolios. Using the portfolio type, you can configure settings and apply business rules to all portfolios of that type.
Create portfolio types
You must define at least one portfolio type before you can create portfolios. The portfolio type Enterprise is included upon installation or upgrade.
Note: The settings for the portfolio type Enterprise are different for fresh install and upgraded users:

For fresh install, the system default settings are used.

For upgraded users, the settings configured in the Global Portfolio Settings page before the upgrade are used. All the portfolios created before the upgrade belong to this portfolio type.
To create a portfolio type:
- Prerequisite: The Edit All Portfolio Types access grant is required to create portfolio types.

From the PPM menu, select Create > Administrative > Portfolio Type.
The Create Portfolio Type page opens.

Complete the General section as described below:
Field (* Required) Description Enable This Portfolio Type Whether or not this portfolio type is enabled.
*Portfolio Type Name Give the portfolio type a unique name. Abbreviation Type the abbreviation (up to two characters) to be shown on the portfolio type icon.
By default, the initials of the portfolio type name (or the first two if there are more than two) are displayed on the icon.
Preview Preview of the portfolio type icon.
Description Provide the description for the portfolio type. -
Complete the Tabs section as described in Set up portfolio tabs.

Complete the Portfolio Security section as described in Configure portfolio security.

Complete the Advanced section as described below:
- Click Save.
Set up portfolio tabs
Configure which tabs are displayed in the portfolio details page and configure the layout of the Overview, Backlog, and Financials tabs.

Allow portfolio manager to override the following settings
Enable this option to if you want to allow portfolio mangers to override the defined tab settings. Otherwise, portfolios will use the default settings inherited from the portfolio type.

Set Up Tabs

From the Available Tabs area, select the tabs to be displayed in the portfolio details page to the Selected Tabs area.
Options are described as follows.
Note: The Contents, Portfolio Epics, and Timeline tabs are available for selection only when the following parameters are set to

Tab Description Overview Use the Portfolio overview tab to display the portfolio information.
If you drag the Overview tab to the Selected Tabs area, the settings icon
will appear on the tab. Click the icon to configure the layout of this tab. For details, see Configure portfolio Overview tab .
Backlog The Portfolio backlog tab enables you to view all the backlog items in the portfolio from the perspective of what values they are to deliver. It includes various views to facilitate the viewing. You can add, remove, and edit portfolio contents directly in portfolio backlog.
If you drag the Backlog tab to the Selected Tabs area, the settings icon
will appear on the tab. Click the icon to configure the layout of this tab. For details, see Configure portfolio Backlog tab.
Contents Use the Portfolio contents tab to add or remove portfolio contents.
Portfolio Epics
The Portfolio epics tab helps you manage agile initiatives at the enterprise scale.
Timeline The Portfolio timeline tab displays the progress and timeline of portfolio contents. Strategy Use the Portfolio Strategy tab for portfolio strategic planning. Roadmap If you have the Application Portfolio Management installed, you can visualize the Roadmaps in the portfolio level. See Introduction to APM Roadmap for details.
Financials Use the Portfolio financials tab to track and manage the costs, benefits and budgets of a portfolio.
If you drag the Financials tab to the Selected Tabs area, the settings icon
will appear on the tab. Click the icon to configure this tab. For details, see Configure portfolio Financials tab.

The order in which the tabs appear in the portfolio details page is the same as they are listed in the Selected Tabs area. Drag and drop the tabs to place them in the order you want.

To deselect a tab, move it to the Available Tabs area or click
on the tab.

Configure portfolio security
Portfolio security controls who can view and edit the portfolio.
Options are described as follows.

Search for a portfolio type to view or edit
To search for a portfolio type,

From the PPM menu, select Search > Administrative > Portfolio Types.

Click the portfolio type link to view or edit.
The View All Portfolio Types or the Edit All Portfolio Types access grant is required to view a portfolio type.
The Edit All Portfolio Types access grant is required to edit a portfolio type.
