Manage program budget
The budgeting strategy the program is following determines how you can manage program budget. This section describes how to manage program budget under either budgeting strategy.
Open Budget Details page
- Go to the program Cost tab.
- Click the program financial summary link.
- In the Financial Summary page, click View Approved Budget Details.
(Top-down budgeting) View, update, and allocate program budge
When the program uses top-down budgeting, you can update budget for the program and allocate the program budget to its content.

To view budget totals of all fiscal years, check the data in the top rectangle.
Total Budget is the program's total budget, including the total budget added in the program level and the budget allocated from the portfolio where the program belongs (if any).
Total Allocations is the budget allocated to the program content.
Total Available is the budget left.
Total Available = Total Budget - Total Allocations
- To view details of budget added in the program level for a specific fiscal year, select the year in the Fiscal Year filter. The Self-Funded Budget section refreshes to display the budget added for the program in that year.
- If the program is added to a portfolio and has budget allocated from the portfolio, the Received Budget section displays, showing the budget received from the portfolio. To view details of received budget for a specific year, select the year in the Fiscal Year filter.
- To view details of budget allocated to any program content for a specific year, select the year in the Fiscal Year filter. Go to the Budget Allocations section and check the Allocated Amount column for the program content. To see allocation history, click the information icon

- To view details of self-funded budget, program allocations, and received budget (if exists) for all fiscal years, select View All in the Fiscal Year filter.

Total Self-Funded Budget is the total budget added in the program level.

- To view details of budget allocated to any program content for a specific year, select the year in the Fiscal Year filter. Go to the Allocations section and check the Allocated Amount column for the program content. To see allocation history, click the information icon

- To view details of self-funded budget, program allocations, and received budget (if exists) for all fiscal years, select View All in the Fiscal Year filter.
You can either use the Update Total Budget or the Add Budget Correction button in the Self-Funded Budget section to update the budget for a program.

Allocate program budget to program contents

In the Budget Allocations section, select a program content to which you want to allocate budget.
Note: In PPM 10.0 and earlier versions, the name of this section is Allocations.
- Click Allocate Budget.

Complete all required fields in the Allocate Budget window.
Be aware of the available budget per fiscal year. You cannot allocate more than the budget limit.
- Click Done.
(Bottom-up budgeting) View and update program budget
When the program uses bottom-up budgeting strategy, you can update budget for the program, and budget of the program content is rolled up to the program, becoming a part of the program budget.

To view budget totals of all fiscal years, check the data in the top rectangle.
Total Self-Funded Budget is the total budget added in the program level.
Total Rolled Up Budget is the total budget rolled up from the program content.
Total Budget is the sum of total self-funded budget and total rolled up budget. Starting from PPM 10.0.1, if the program is added to a portfolio and has budget allocated from the portfolio, the Total Budget also includes the budget allocated from the portfolio.
- To view details of budget added in the program level for a specific fiscal year, select the year in the Fiscal Year filter. The Self-Funded Budget section refreshes to display the budget added for the program in that year.
- (Available in PPM 10.0.1 and later versions) If the program is added to a portfolio and has budget allocated from the portfolio, the Received Budget section displays, showing the budget received from the portfolio. To view details of received budget for a specific year, select the year in the Fiscal Year filter.
- To view details of budget rolled up from the program content for a specific year, select the year in the Fiscal Year filter. Check the Rolled Up Budget section.
- To view details of self-funded budget, rolled up budget, and received budget (if exists) for all fiscal years, select View All in the Fiscal Year filter.
