Integrate requests and projects

If you have both Demand Management and Project Management, you can integrate Demand Management's request tracking capability with Project Management's deliverable date and actuals tracking capabilities.

This section provides the details of integrating requests and projects.

Overview of integrating requests and projects

Integrating Demand Management and Project Management has the following benefits:

  • Requests can be folded seamlessly into a scalable framework of interlocking initiatives.
  • Provides instant visibility into the detailed activities that support a project.

You can integrate a request with a project or task from the following locations:

Reference tasks to requests

You can use the References tab on the Task Details page to link a task to new and existing requests. For details, see Reference requests from tasks.

Reference Projects from Requests

You use the References tab (or section) on the request details to reference existing projects from requests. For details, see Add references to requests.

You use the References tab (or section) on the request details to reference existing tasks from requests. For details, see Add references to requests.

As you integrate requests and projects or tasks, dependencies are established between the two entities. For example, you can specify a request as a predecessor to a package. For details about relationships, see References and relationships.

Reference requests from tasks

You can use the References tab on the Task Details page to link a task to new and existing requests.

To reference a request from a task:

  1. From the PPM menu, click Search > Projects.

  2. On the Search Projects page, provide your search criteria and then click Search. The Project Search page reloads and displays the search results.

  3. To open a project, from the Project Name list, click the project name.

  4. On the Project Summary tab, at the top of the Work Plan area, click Edit Work Plan. The View Work Plan page opens to the Schedule View.

  5. In the list of tasks, select the task to reference to a request, and then click the Task Details icon.

  6. On the Task Details page, click the References tab.

  7. From the New Reference list, select either of the following and then click Add.

    • To reference the task to an existing request, select Request (Existing)
    • To reference the task to a new request, select Request (New)
  8. If you selected Request (Existing), do the following. Otherwise, skip to step 9.

    1. On the Add Reference: Request page, enter your search criteria, and then click Search.

      The Request Search Results section lists the requests that match your search criteria.

    2. In the Request Search Results section, select the checkbox for the request you want to add as a reference and then click Add.

      The Add Reference: Request page closes and the Task Details page opens. On the References tab, the References to be added on Save field displays the request you selected.

  9. If you selected Request (New), in the Create New Request window, do the following:

    1. In the Request Type field, select the request type.

      Note: You can only specify the "Related to this Task" dependency between requests and tasks.

    2. Click Create.

    3. In the Create New <Request Type> window, provide all required information and any useful optional information, and then click Submit.

      The Create New <Request Type> window closes and the Task Details page opens. On the References tab, the References to be added on Save field displays the request you just created.

  10. Click Done.

  11. To save your changes to the work plan, click Done.
