Create programs and lifecycle entities

If you are a new user of PPM, after creating a portfolio and before adding contents to the portfolio, you must create the contents (programs and lifecycle entities) in PPM. This section describes how to create programs and lifecycle entities.

If you already have initiatives running in PPM, you can skip this section.

Note: In this document, lifecycle entities refer to proposals, projects, and assets.

If they do not operate as described in this guide, they might have been configured differently at your company. Contact your administrator for more information.

Create proposals

A proposal consolidates all the information needed to make a decision about a proposed project. Once submitted, proposals follow a predefined business process toward resolution.

  1. Log on to PPM.

  2. From the menu bar, select Create > Proposal.

Alternatively, you can select Open > Demand Management > Create Request, select a Request Type of PFM - Proposal, and click Create.

  3. Complete all required fields and any optional fields.

  4. Click Submit.

The proposal is created and begins its approval process.

Create projects

An active project consolidates the information for, records actions taken on, and reflects the status of an initiative currently being worked on.

A project is created automatically when a proposal is approved, carrying forward relevant information and attached entities. You can also create projects from scratch.

Create assets

An asset consolidates the information for, records actions taken on, and reflects the current status of an entity that the company maintains and uses on an ongoing basis without further development. All active assets should be tracked at an aggregate level such as ERP, rather than at the level of every application.

By default, PPM automatically creates an asset when a project is completed, carrying forward relevant information and attached entities. You can also create assets from scratch.

Create programs

A program is a container that groups related lifecycle entities together to manage a lager initiative than what a single project can achieve.

See Initiate a program.
