Set up roles and skills

In Resource Management, roles and skills can be defined and associated with resources, staffing profile positions and work plan tasks. Roles and skills help define resource requirements. Roles can also determine cost rates when calculating labor costs.

Create, modify, and delete a role

This section provides details on how to create, modify, and delete a role.

Prerequisite:

To add, modify roles, you must have the Resource Mgmt: Edit All Roles access grant.

To add a role:

  1. From the menu bar, select Create > Administrative > Role.

  2. In the Create a New Role page, enter a name in the Role Name field and complete other optional fields you want.

  3. Click Create.

    The role is created. You can now add this role to any resource.

To modify a role:

  1. From the menu bar, select Search > Administrative > Roles.

  2. On the Browse Roles page, click the Name column of a role to open the Edit a Role page.

    Note: If the role's definition language differs from your session language, you cannot modify the skill. Click Why? in the header and see the Multilingual User Interface for more information.

  3. Make necessary changes and click Save.

To delete an unused role:

  1. On the Browse Roles page, click the Name column of a role to delete.

    Note: You can only delete a role that is not in use. Roles used by resources or in historical work items cannot be deleted; they can only be disabled.

  2. On the Edit a Role page, click Delete Role and then click Yes to confirm.

Create, modify, and delete a skill

This section provides details on how to create, modify, and delete a skill.

Prerequisite:

To add and modify a skill, you must have the Resource Mgmt: Edit All Skills access grant.

To create a skill:

  1. From the menu bar, select Create > Administrative > Skill.

  2. On the Create a New Skill page, provide a name for the skill and complete other optional fields.

  3. Click Create.

    The skill is created. You can now add this skill to any resource.

To modify a skill:

  1. From the menu bar, select Search > Administrative > Skills from the menu bar.

  2. On the Browse Skills page, click the Name column of a skill to open the Modify Skill page.

    Note: If the skill's definition language differs from your session language, you cannot modify the skill. Click Why? in the header and see the Multilingual User Interface for more information.

  3. Make any necessary changes and click Save.

To delete an unused skill:

  1. From the Browse Skills page, click the Name column of a skill to open the Modify Skill page.
