Configure global calendar precedence order

Available from version 26.2: The global calendar precedence order allows administrators to define the order of precedence for regional calendars used when calculating demand in staffing profiles. This provides greater flexibility in demand calculation across different organizational structures.

Note: This feature is currently in beta, and is hidden by default. To enable this option, set SHOW_UNDER_DEVELOPMENT to true in Application Parameters.

When Use New Global Staffing Profile Precedence Calendar When Converting Demand Effort is enabled, Use Staffing Profile Regional Calendar When Converting Demand Effort is automatically disabled.

Overview

When calculating demand for staffing profiles, PPM can use regional calendars associated with different levels:

  • Position
  • Staffing Profile
  • Project
  • Resource Pool
  • Default

The global calendar precedence order determines which regional calendar takes priority when multiple calendars are available. This ensures consistent and predictable demand calculations based on your organization's needs.

Access global calendar precedence order

To configure the calendar precedence order:

  1. From the main menu, select Administration > Project Management > Global Calendar Precedence Order.
  2. Define the order of precedence by arranging the calendar levels in your preferred priority order.
  3. Save your changes.

The precedence order you define will be applied when calculating demand in staffing profiles throughout the system.

Configuration levels and overrides

The calendar precedence order can be configured at the following levels:

  • Administration: Administration > Project Management > Global Calendar Precedence Order.
  • Project type: Administration > Project Management > Manage Project Types > Project Calendar Precedence.
  • Project: Project Settings > Project Calendar Precedence.

When multiple configurations exist, project-level settings take the highest precedence, followed by project type, and then administration-level settings.

How precedence order affects demand calculation

When PPM calculates demand for a staffing profile position, it checks for an associated regional calendar at each level according to the defined precedence order. The first level where a regional calendar is found will be used for the demand calculation.

For example, if the precedence order is set as:

  1. Position
  2. Staffing Profile
  3. Project
  4. Resource Pool
  5. Default

PPM will first check if a regional calendar is associated with the Position. If found, that calendar is used. If not, it checks the Staffing Profile level, and so on.
