After you decide on what to invest in a portfolio to carry out the portfolio strategy, you monitor and analyze the portfolio to see whether it is going on track and to make adjustment when necessary.
This section describes how to track and analyze a portfolio from different perspectives.
Portfolio Contents Financial Information
The Overview tab of a portfolio displays a graph of the forecast and actual costs/benefits and the depletion of approved budget for the summation (roll-up) of all of the items in the portfolio—its subportfolios, programs, projects, proposals, and assets—for the year you select.
By default, the current fiscal year is shown but you can use the View financial information in drop-down list to select a different fiscal year, from two fiscal years ago to five fiscal years from now.
You can use the View drop-down list to view the data by months or quarters.
If your administrator enables separate tracking of capital and operating cost and budget, you can use the Show costs drop-down list to select the type of cost or budget.
Note: When items are added to or removed from a portfolio or when the financial summaries of existing items in the portfolio are updated, the financial information in the portfolio is recalculated according to the schedule specified by the Financial Summary Rollup service.
To drill down into the financial information of each portfolio content, go to the Contents tab. The tab provides more financial data other than cost, benefit, and budget.
For details about how to display hidden columns in Contents tab, see Modifying the Display of the Contents Tab.
You can use the View financial information in drop-down list to filter for financial information of a different year.
