Set up self-service portlets

This topic provides details on how to set up a self-service portlet.

Overview of self-service portlets

Self-service portlets provide the full flexibility to define what data to present and how the data is presented. Anyone with the required access grant can set up a self-service portlet without any pre-configuration.

Self-service portlets can be added to and edited from the following pages:

  • Portfolio Type Settings page

  • Portfolio Overview tab

  • Project Type Settings page (Available in PPM 9.65 and later versions)

  • Project Overview page (Available in PPM 9.65 and later versions)

  • PPM Dashboard pages (Available in PPM 9.65 and later versions)

  • Request Dashboard (Available in PPM 9.66 and later versions)

  • Team's Overview tab (Available in PPM 9.66 and later versions)

  • Program Dashboard (Available in PPM 9.66 and later versions)

Set up display options for self-servcie portlets

This section provides steps of how to set up display options for self-service portlets.

To set up display options for a self-service portlet, use the self-service portlet's Edit Preferences page.

  1. Click the Edit button on a self-service portlet to open the Edit Preferences page.

  2. On the right side of the Edit Preferences page, select a data source for the self-service portlet.

    PPM provides two self-service portlet data sources: Portfolio Items and Financial Costs ready for use. For details, see PPM supplied self-service portlet data sources.

    Starting from 9.66, you can also create a self-service portlet data source. For details, see Create and maintain self-service portlet data sources.

  3. From the Visualization pane, select a display type for the self-service portlet and configure the display options.

    This step requires different information for different display types.

  4. In the Filters pane, configure the data displayed in the self-service portlet.

    1. In the Data source preference section, set data source preferences for the self-service portlet.

      The fields in the Data source preference section change dynamically, depending on the self-service data source you selected. Initially, all the data source preference fields are mapped from the self-service portlet data source. The preference fields indicate the name of the filed and any default value.

      The following examples introduce the preference fields of PPM-supplied self-service portlet data sources.

    2. In the Field filters section, set the field filters for the self-service portlet.

      1. Drag and drop a field by which to filter data.

      2. Select a filter condition, and select the filter values.

      3. Repeat these steps to apply another filter.

  5. To change the self-service portlet name, in the top left side of the Edit Preferences page, enter a name for the portlet.

  6. Preview the portlet on the left side of the Edit Preference page and make sure that you have presented the information as desired.

  7. Click Done.
