StormRunner Load Licensing

To run load tests using StormRunner Load, you must purchase a StormRunner Load license.

Purchase a StormRunner Load license

A StormRunner Load license is made of both a run type and a variety of Vuser types. You can purchase a combination of run types and Vuser types to meet your team's needs.

Purchase the following StormRunner Load license run types:

License Description

Vusers

(VU)

  • A fixed license enabling you to run any Vuser type.
  • Purchasable through your Customer Sales representative.
Vuser hours

(VUH

  • Enables you to run Vusers by the hour in load tests on the cloud.

1 VUH is effectively 1 Vuser executing a load test for 1 hour.

  • Purchasable online, or through your Customer Sales representative.

See Virtual user hour (VUH) licenses below.

Purchase the following Vuser types:

Vuser Type Supported Protocols Description
GUI Vuser LeantFT A GUI Vuser emulates actions on the GUI level. For example, a user clicking a button. Since the GUI has to be rendered for each virtual user, these Vusers consume significantly more processing resources.
Selenium
TruClient - Mobile Web

TruClient - Native Mobile

Note: StormRunner Load does not support Native Mobile scripts recorded in TruClient version 12.53.

TruClient - Web
Web Vuser and Dev Vuser script types
Web Vuser

Flex

Note: Supported for on-premises load generators only.

A Web Vuser emulates a user's actions at the network API level. For example, HTTP requests and responses without rendering the UI.

Java

The following Java protocols are supported:

  • Java Record Replay
  • Java Vuser
  • Java over HTTP

Note: Supported for cloud and Windows on-premises load generators only.

Mobile Application - HTTP/HTML

MQTT (Internet of Things)
TruAPI
Web HTTP/HTML
Web Services
Dev Vuser script types
ERP Vuser

Oracle NCA

Note: Supported for on-premises load generators only.

An ERP Vuser is used for running SAP protocols.

SAP-GUI

Note: Supported for on-premises load generators only.

SAP - Web

Siebel Web

Note: Supported for cloud and Windows on-premises load generators only.

Legacy Vuser

Citrix ICA

Note: Supported for on-premises load generators only.

StormRunner Load license consumption

If the number of licenses configured in a test exceeds the number of available licenses for that type, StormRunner Load will automatically use another existing license bundle. View your cart to see the estimated license usage before you run the test.

Examples of how this can be applied if the license run type is Vusers:

If number of licenses configured in a test is: But the number of available licenses is: StormRunner Load automatically uses:

Try a StormRunner Load 30-day trial license.

Note: The trial license provides Vuser hours which enable load testing on Amazon Web Services (AWS)  and on-premises load generators only.

The following table summarizes the trial license.

Vuser Type Maximum single test duration Concurrent tests Max Vusers per run Maximum number of tests runs Max hits/sec*

VUH

GUI 1 hour No 100 10 (includes quick load tests) 50 (Web) 1000
30 5000 (GUI)
100 50 (Dev)

Note: Pacing (1 second) is automatically added to all scripts that you run using a trial license. You can manually configure the pacing but you cannot set it to less than 1 second.

Virtual user hour (VUH) licenses

VUH licenses enable you to run Vusers by the hour. 1 VUH is effectively 1 Vuser running a load test for 1 hour.

Purchase a VUH license

VUH licenses are purchasable online, or through your Customer Service representative.

To purchase VUH licenses that meet your testing needs:

  1. On home.software.microfocus.com, navigate to the StormRunner Load page and click Pricing.
  2. Under Express, click Build package.
  3. Select the Vuser type and the amount of Vuser hours needed.

How much will it cost to run my test using VUH?

As you are creating your test definition, the cart will display the number of VUH required to run your test.

The number of VUH is calculated by the following formula rounding up to the nearest whole VUH:

(Vusers * [Ramp up time + Test duration + Tear down time]in seconds)/3600)

Examples:

Vusers Ramp up Duration Tear down  Vusers * Total test time  Total VUH
1 00:05:00 00:40:00 00:05:00 1 * 50 minutes 1
10 00:10:00 00:40:00 00:10:00

10 * 60 minutes

10
10 00:10:00 00:10:00 00:10:00 10 * 30 minutes 5
