Use StormRunner Load (SRL) load generators to run load tests on-premises on applications that cannot be accessed from over your firewall.
Caution: Installing the on-premises load generator package on a machine that is running any Micro Focus performance or functional products is not supported.
Before installing an on-premises load generator, ensure that .NET version 3.5 is installed on the load generator machine.
Note: Some versions of Windows require you to manually enable and install .NET version 3.5.
- To help ensure the successful installation of an on-premises load generator, enable Windows Script Host on the load generator machine.
Memory, CPU, and free disk space requirements vary per protocol, system under test and script characteristics.
The recommended system requirements are:
The following OS are recommended:
|Supported OS||Windows 7 (64 bit) and above|
|Free disk space||
Note: During installation, the installer checks for space in the temp directory, as configured in the user’s local environment variables.
|Recommended Bandwidth||A bandwidth of at least 1Gbs is recommended for communicating with the StormRunner Load servers.|
|Date and time||
Ensure that the date and time on the load generator machine are correct.
Tip: Synchronize your computer clock with an Internet time server.
|Connection between LGs and StormRunner Load||
The load generator machine needs to be able to access the StormRunner Load servers in SaaS and the cloud machines. (Only outbound HTTPS connection on port 443 needs to be enabled.)
If there is no connection between StormRunner Load servers and the Load Generator (on-premises load generator Status=Not Connected), an error message is reported when you try to run your test.
|One test per load generator||
The load generator can run only one test at a time. If the required load generator is already in use by another test, an error message is reported when you try to run your test.
Vusers in your on-premises load test cannot exceed the maximum number of Vusers in your license.
|Security||Ensure that the OS, as well as any protocol prerequisites (for example, JDK and .NET), have the latest security updates.|
|Multiple IP addresses||
If you have requested multiple IP addresses for a load test, you must ensure that you have assigned all the valid IP addresses to the load generator machine so that StormRunner Load can use them during the test.
For details on working with multiple IP addresses, see Enable multiple IP addresses.
Note: If you are updating the load generator, see the instructions for installing the update
|Define your load generator in StormRunner Load and note the key:||
|Download the load generator installation package||
On each machine on which you want to install a load generator, download the installation .zip file from StormRunner Load Home page > Get tools > Agents > Get OPLG, and extract the contents.
|Install the load generator components||
|Configure the load generator||
For more information on configuring the load generator, see On-premises load generator configuration tool.
|Launch the load generator||
Go to Start > StormRunner Load Generator > Start SRL Generator.
Tip: We recommend that you run the load generator as an administrator.
On each machine where you have a load generator installed:
|Download the load generator upgrade package||
Download the upgrade zip file from StormRunner Load Home page > Get tools > Agents > Get Upgrade Package and extract the contents.
|Upgrade the load generator||
Note: After upgrading a load generator, the desktop icons for configuring and starting the load generator are no longer visible and you need to create new shortcuts.
If you skipped the load generator configuration when you installed or updated the on-premises load generator, or if you need to update the configuration settings:
Go to Start > StormRunner Load Generator > Configure Load Generator.
Enable multiple IP addresses on an on-premises load generator
You can configure a load test to use multiple IP addresses on an on-premises load generator.
|Enable multiple IP addresses in StormRunner Load||Contact your account manager or sales representative.|
|Enable multiple IP addresses for a load test||From StormRunner > Load Tests > General tab, select the Enable multiple IP addresses check box.|
|Allocate sufficient IP addresses||
You must ensure that you have allocated the required number of valid IP addresses on the relevant on-premises load generator.
For more information, see Enable multiple IP addresses.
|Create a test||
From StormRunner > Load Tests, select a load test or create a new test.
|Select On-premise as the location of the load generators||
From the Scripts tab, select a script and then select On-Premise from the Location drop-down list.
|Add a load generator||
From the Distribution tab, click On Premise and then click Add from Assets to select the on-premises StormRunner Load Generators to use for your test.
For more information, see Manage load tests.
Uninstall an on-premises load generator
From the Control Panel:
- If installed, first uninstall the StormRunner Load Generator Upgrade Patch.
- Uninstall the StormRunner Load Generator.
Note: If both the StormRunner Load Generator and the StormRunner Load Generator Upgrade Patch are installed and you uninstall only one of them, the load generator will not be usable.
