Web Add-in

You can use the Web Add-in to test HTML user-interface objects (controls).

The following tables summarize basic information about the Web Add-in and how it relates to some commonly-used aspects of UFT One. This information is also relevant for all child add-ins that extend the Web Add-in.

General Information

Add-in Type

Much of the functionality of this add-in is the same as other Web-based add-ins.

Supported Environments

For details on supported Web browsers and versions, see the UFT One Support Matrix.

Child Add-ins
  • Web 2.0 Toolkit Support

UFT One also provides a set of add-ins that support testing specialized controls from a number of Web 2.0 toolkits using test object classes that were developed by Micro Focus using Web Add-in Extensibility. These add-ins are displayed as child nodes of the Web Add-in in the Add-in Manager. For details, see Web 2.0 toolkit support .

  • WebAgGrid and WebUIGrid objects

The WebAgGrid and WebUIGrid test objects are supported by separate AgGrid and UIGrid Web child Add-ins, instead of the Web Add-in itself. This eliminates some conflicts that used to occur between these objects and Web objects.

The AgGrid and UIGrid add-ins are installed as part of the Web add-in. However, by default, these add-ins are not loaded. If you want to test AgGrid or UIGrid objects, make sure to open UFT One with the relevant add-in selected.

Test Object Methods and Properties

The Web Add-in provides test objects, methods, and properties that can be used when testing objects in Web applications. For details, see the Web section of the UFT One Object Model Reference for GUI Testing.

Extending the Web Add-in

Web Add-in extensibility enables you to develop support for testing third-party and custom Web controls that are not supported out-of-the-box by the UFT One Web Add-in.

Other

  • When you load the Siebel Add-in in addition to the Web Add-in, the object identification settings are automatically customized. For this reason, the Web Add-in is not available in the Environment list in the Object Identification dialog box (Tools > Object Identification), even though the Web Add-in is loaded.

  • You can create steps on more than one browser tab, if your browser supports tabbed browsing.

Testing in browsers on the cloud

(UFT One version 2023 and later)

You can run your Web tests, including tests created using UFT One version 2022 and earlier, on cloud browsers provided by Digital Lab.

To run a web test on a cloud browser, do the following:

  1. Connect UFT One to Digital Lab. Define the connection settings in Tools > Options > GUI Testing > Digital Lab. See Define your Digital Lab pane details.

  2. Before you start a test run session, specify the cloud browser to use for the run.

Specify the browser in the Record and Run Settings dialog box, in the Web tab. See Web Tab (Record and Run Settings Dialog Box).

  3. Run your web test on a cloud browser provided by Digital Lab (UFT Mobile).

For details on setting up cloud browsers on Digital Lab, see the Digital Lab (UFT Mobile) Help Center.

Note: You can run tests on cloud browsers, but you cannot spy on applications, record steps, or view the application as the test runs.

For more details on the scope of web testing on cloud browsers, see Running on cloud browsers.

Prerequisites

Opening Your Application

You might need to open UFT One before opening your Web application.

Testing in Mozilla Firefox

The Micro Focus UFT Agent Extension for Firefox is supported from Firefox versions 54 and higher.

Note:

  • Testing on versions of Firefox earlier than 54 requires installing the legacy Functional Testing Agent extension. This is supported only on Firefox ESR versions 38-53, using UFT One versions 2021 R1 or earlier.

For details on installing the extension, see Enable the Micro Focus UFT Agent extension on Mozilla Firefox.

  • Testing Java applets on Firefox relied on an earlier legacy Functional Testing Agent extension and is no longer supported.
  • Only one version of the Micro Focus UFT Agent Extension can be enabled in Firefox at a time.
Testing in Google Chrome
  • UFT One communicates with the Micro Focus UFT Agent Chrome Extension to test Web applications running in Google Chrome.

The extension is available on the Chrome web store and downloads automatically when possible, for Chrome versions 68 or later. If the extension does not download, manually download it. For details, see Automatic Chrome updates disabled.

If you have the Functional Testing Agent for Google Chrome installed, you must manually remove this older extension before enabling the new one.

If you do not have an Internet connection or are working with Chrome version 67 or earlier, see Enable the Micro Focus UFT Agent extension on Google Chrome.

Chrome version 67 or earlier is supported only on UFT One versions 2021 R1 and earlier.

  • To test local HTML pages in Google Chrome, you must make additional configuration changes. For details, see Enable UFT One to test local HTML pages in Google Chrome.

Testing in Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based)

To record and run tests on Microsoft Chromium-based Edge browsers, you must install the Micro Focus UFT Agent Chromium Edge extension. For details, see Enable the Micro Focus UFT Agent extension on Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based).

UFT One supports the stable and beta Chromium Edge versions. When UFT One opens the browser, it opens the stable version, if installed. Otherwise, it opens the beta version, if installed.

Test local HTML pages in Chromium Edge, you must make additional configuration changes. For details, see Enable UFT One to test local HTML pages in Microsoft Chromium Edge.

Testing in Microsoft Edge Legacy
  • To work with Edge browsers, you must ensure that the correct Microsoft WebDriver version is in the UFT One installation folder. For details, see Enable the Edge Agent for UFT on Microsoft Edge Legacy

  • To record and run tests on Microsoft Edge browsers, you must start the Edge Agent for UFT. For details, see Enable the Edge Agent for UFT on Microsoft Edge Legacy.

  • If you are using the Microsoft Edge Insider version, you should use version 10576 or later. However, due to changes in the Web Driver insider build by Microsoft, later versions may not work with UFT One.
