Screen Capture Pane (Options Dialog Box > GUI Testing Tab)

To access

Select Tools > Options > GUI Testing tab > Screen Capture node.

Important information

Clicking the Restore Factory Defaults button resets all product settings, including ALM Connection information, the recent files list, and anything defined in the Options dialog box, such as startup options, UI layout, GUI, API, and BPT testing options, remote connection credentials, and more.

Specifies when to capture images of the application during the run session and save them in the run results. In the run results, when images are available, they are displayed in the step summary information.

• Always. Captures images for all steps in the run.
• For errors. Captures images only for failed steps. This is the default setting.
• For errors and warnings. Captures images only for steps that return a failed or warning status.

Note: This setting also affects the availability of other information displayed in the run results, such as:

• XML checkpoint and output value result details
• Bitmap checkpoint images (expected, actual, and, if relevant, difference)

For mobile tests, save as GIF. Indicates that for the specified steps, animated GIF files should be captured, rather than still images. This option is not supported for mobile devices stored on AWS Device Farms.

In the following cases, a still image of the entire desktop is captured, to assist in analyzing the error:

• A general error occurs when running the test.
• You configured capturing GIFs from OpenText Functional Testing Lab for errors or warnings only, and the error occurred in OpenText Functional Testing. For example, the step's object was no longer in the object repository.

Screen captures are captured for each step after the relevant test object is identified.

Depending on the technology of the application being tested, the snapshot is taken before or after the operation is performed on the object:

• Before: AI-based testing, and the following application types: .NET, ActiveX, Java, MSAA (Microsoft Active Accessibility), Oracle, PowerBuilder, SAP Fiori, Standard Windows, Terminal Emulators, UIA, Visual Basic,
• After: Insight testing, and the following application types: Delphi, DevExpress, PDF, QT, SAP (all but Fiori), SiebelOpenUI, Stingray, OpenText Functional Testing Lab, VisualAge, Web.

Specifies when to capture a video of the application during the run session and save it in the run results. When videos are available in the run results, the report includes a link to open and play the video.

This option is turned off by default.

Select the checkbox to turn on this option and then select an option from the list:

• Always. Captures a video of all steps in the run.
• For errors. Captures videos only for failed steps.
• For errors and warnings. Captures videos only for steps that return a failed or warning status.

Important:

• Recording only on primary monitor: The Screen Recorder records a video of the operations performed on your primary monitor. Therefore, if you are working with multiple monitors, make sure that your application is fully visible on your primary monitor when recording or running a test or component.
• Recording entire desktop. The Screen Recorder saves a video of your entire desktop. Selecting this option minimizes the OpenText Functional Testing window during the run session, preventing it from partially obscuring your application while capturing the video.

Specifies that video segments are saved for each error (or warning). Each segment contains the specified number of kilobytes of the video prior to the failed (or warning) step. You can enter any value from 400 (0.4 MB) to 2097152 (2 GB). If more than one segment is captured for a run session, a single video is stored, comprised of all the relevant video segments.

Specifies that a video of the entire run is saved if at least one error (or warning) occurs.

Specifies that sound is saved with the video of your application.

Sets the wallpaper of your desktop to a solid color for the duration of the run session.

Instructs Windows to display only the outline of a window, without its contents, whenever the window is dragged during the run session.

Installs or uninstalls the Screen Recorder Capture Driver. The Screen Recorder Capture Driver improves the performance of the Screen Recorder during video recording.
