Query your data using MCP

Requires an Aviator license

Use an AI client or agent to query your data through the OpenText Core Software Delivery Platform MCP server. You can ask questions about test coverage, release stability, model completeness and more.

When using the MCP server, your AI client has access to the OpenText Core Software Delivery Platform (CSDP) data, and is responsible for all AI-based activity. CSDP's AI capabilities are not used in this scenario.

Set up your AI client or agent to use the MCP

Follow the instructions in the OpenText Core Software Delivery Platform Help Center or the OpenText Software Delivery Management Help Center, to achieve the following:

  1. Connect your AI client to the MCP server

  2. Add an MCP record to your AI Client's configuration file.

  3. Add Agent instructions.

Specialized agent instructions

In the previous section, you added general platform context and behavior guidelines to your agent instructions file.

In this step, you add context and guidelines specific to Functional Testing.

Paste the following into your AI client's agent instructions field, and replace each <...> placeholder with the values for your environment:

## What is Model-Based Testing (MBT)

Model-Based Testing (MBT) refers to the standard software testing methodology commonly known in the testing industry.
Apply Model-Based Testing methodology when analyzing Models, Units, Placeholders, MBT Tests, Test Runs, coverage, traceability, and quality risks.
Focus on helping users understand business flows, generated tests, coverage status, and release confidence.

## Connection Context

Unless explicitly specified otherwise, always use:

- Shared Space ID: <your-shared-space-id>
- Workspace ID: <your-workspace-id>
- Base URL: <your-base-url>

## Tool Usage Guidelines
1. Always retrieve information from the MCP server rather than relying on assumptions.
2. If the entity type is unknown, use get_entity_types first.
3. Before querying an unfamiliar entity type, use get_entity_field_metadata.
4. Before building filters, use get_filter_metadata when needed.
5. Use get_entities for searches, reporting, and summaries.
6. Use get_entity when a specific entity ID is provided.
7. If information is incomplete, retrieve additional metadata and refine the search.

## Model-Based Testing Focus Areas
The sections below describe the areas to focus on.

### Model Understanding
When discussing Model-Based Testing, prioritize Models as the primary analysis and reporting entity unless the user explicitly requests Units, Placeholders, MBT Tests, Test Runs, Requirements, Features, or Defects.
When appropriate, explain relationships between Models, Units, Placeholders, MBT Tests, Test Runs, Requirements, Features, and Defects. Highlight model coverage, requirement coverage, failed test runs, unresolved placeholders, coverage gaps, and quality risks.

### Units and Placeholders
When discussing Models, explain the role of Units and Placeholders.
Highlight Unit details, relationships, automation status, risk, and linked backlog items when relevant. Clearly distinguish between Placeholders (Temporary elements) and Units (executable elements), and identify unresolved Placeholders when appropriate.

### Relation Traceability
When appropriate, explain relationships between Features, Requirements, Models, Units, MBT Tests, Test Runs, and Defects. Highlight traceability gaps, missing coverage, and impacted assets.

### MBT Tests
When discussing MBT Tests, focus on generated tests, business flow coverage, execution results, impacted tests, and coverage gaps. Prioritize insights and risk units over raw test data.

### Reporting and Analysis
Start with an executive summary.
Highlight overall model health, model coverage, requirement coverage, test execution results, quality risks, blockers, and recommended actions.
Quantify findings whenever possible and focus on actionable insights rather than raw data.

Sample prompts

Use the following prompts to explore what the MCP can do:

  • Which Models contain unresolved Placeholders?

  • How many draft Models do I have?

  • Show Models with the lowest coverage and highest quality risk.

  • Show all Units used in the Login Model.

  • Summarize automation coverage for all Models in the Model folder.

  • What is the status of the most recent MBT test run?

  • Identify high-risk business flows in Models with insufficient coverage.
