Create baselines in Eclipse

In the Eclipse integration, you can create a design, tip, or revised baseline from any project or stream in the repositories to which you are connected. You can also create a baseline that uses a specific baseline template.

For details about baselines, see Baseline management.

Create a baseline

You can create a design baseline or a baseline based on a template.

To create a baseline:

  1. Right-click a node from an open connection on the Dimensions CM Explorer, and select Team > Create Baseline. If you right-click a project or stream, relevant details such as product and project are prepopulated.

Or right-click a controlled project in the Eclipse Navigator pane, and select New > Baseline.

    The Create Baseline wizard opens.

  2. Select a product and then your project or stream.

  3. From the Type list, select a baseline type.

  4. Enter an ID string for the baseline.

  5. For Create from project, select the project or stream from which to create the baseline, or browse to select it. Then click Next.

  6. In the Select Baseline Template and Design Part screen, select a baseline template from the Template list. The baseline template determines which requests or items to include in the baseline.

To create a design baseline, do not select a template.

  7. Enter a design part ID in the Top Part field, or click the Browse button to search for a design part. This field identifies the top-level design part in the design part hierarchy from which you baseline items or requests. You can include any number of levels of children of this design part using the Part levels options.

  8. Use the Part levels options to select the levels in the design part hierarchy from which to include items, starting from the parent design part you entered in the Top Part field.

To include items from all design parts under the root design part, select All. To specify the number of levels from which to include items, select the From top to Level option and enter or select a number.

Example: If you select From top to Level and enter 3, then items are included from the top three levels of the design part hierarchy, starting with the design part you entered in the Top Part field.

    Click Next.

  9. In the Select Requests screen, specify any requests to relate to this baseline, and click Next.

If you are using a request baseline template, the baseline will include any items that have an In Response To relationship to the specified requests. If you are using an item baseline template, the specified requests will be related to the baseline but will have no effect on the baseline content.

  10. In the Baseline Attributes screen, enter values for user defined attributes, and click Next. You must enter values for required attributes to create the baseline.

  11. Click Finish to create the baseline.

Create a tip baseline

You can create a tip baseline to capture the state of a project or stream at a particular point.

To create a tip baseline:

  1. In the Dimensions CM Explorer, right-click the project and choose New > Tip Baseline, or right-click the project in the Eclipse Explorer and choose Team > New Tip Baseline. The Create Tip Baseline dialog box opens.

  2. In the Create Baseline pane, select the Dimensions CM Product, Type, Baseline ID, From Project and IDE Project., then click Next.

Note: The Baseline ID is generated automatically as project_blx, where x is a number to make the baseline unique.

  3. In the Select Requests screen, enter or browse to select any requests that you want to relate to this baseline.

  4. In the Baseline Attributes screen, enter the attributes for the new baseline.

  5. Click Finish.

Create a revised baseline

You can create a revised baseline from an existing baseline. For details about revising baselines, see Revise and merge baselines.

To create a revised baseline:

  1. In the Dimensions CM Explorer, right-click the baseline for which you want to create a revised baseline, and select New > Revised Baseline.

  2. The product and project are prepopulated based on your initial baseline selection.

  3. From the Type list, select a baseline type. The ID string for the revised baseline is generated automatically. Click Next.

  4. In the Update baseline using field, list the requests related to item revisions you want to add to the baseline. The item revisions must have an In Response To relationship to the requests. You can enter one or more IDs separated by a comma, or click Browse.

  5. In the Remove from baseline using field, list the requests related to item revisions that you want to remove from the baseline. The item revisions must have an Affected relationship to the requests. You can enter one or more IDs separated by a comma, or click Browse.

Note: You must have at least one request in either the Update baseline using or Remove baseline using field.

  1. Select the Traverse request relationships option to search for item revisions included in requests related to the listed requests.

  2. In the Scope using field, enter the ID of the project or stream from which you want to include item revisions. Or browse to find a project or stream. Then click Next.

  3. In the Baseline Attributes screen, enter values for user defined attributes, and click Next. You must enter values for required attributes in order to create the baseline.

  4. Click Finish to create the revised baseline.
