Create a Dimensions CM request in Eclipse

You can create Dimensions CM requests in the Eclipse integration. To create a new request based on details from an existing request, you can prime an existing Dimensions CM request.

Note: To use external requests, you need to create them in the relevant request provider instance, such as OpenText ALM Octane or Atlassian Jira, and map the instance to Dimensions CM. For details, see Configure request providers.

New requests are added to the repository and assigned to the initial lifecycle state. You can leave a request in your draft list if you need more information to create the request.

To create a Dimensions CM request:

  1. In Dimensions CM Explorer, right-click Requests or Draft Requests, and select New > Request.

To prime with information (related project and design part) from an existing request, right-click an existing request and select New > Request.

    The New Request wizard opens.

  2. Specify the following request details:

    Field Description
Raise request against Select the product for which the new request is to be created.
Of type Select the type of request to be created.
Title Enter a title for the request.
    Description

    Select an option:

    • From file. Enter the name of the file containing the request description, or browse to find the file.

    • Text (default). Enter a description of the request.

    Click Next.

  3. To base the new request on an existing request, select the Base request on option. Then from the Base Request On list, select a request.

To set a relationship between the new request and the source request, select one from the Relate As list.

    Click Next.

  4. From the Role Section list, select a role. The set of attributes that are relevant to a user with that role are displayed. To set attributes, enter or select values. Attributes in italics cannot be changed. Attributes in bold are required.

    Click Next.

  5. Relate the request to objects:

    Field Description
    Relate to Parts

Click Find to select the design part specifications that the request affects.

In the Selection wizard, first enter the search criteria to find parts, and then select one or more parts from the results.

If you're basing the request on another request, parts related to that request are already populated here.

    Relate to Projects

Click Find to select the project or stream that the request affects.

In the Selection wizard, first enter the search criteria, and then select one or more project/streams from the results.

    Click Next.

  6. To add an attachment, click Add. Enter the full path to the file, or browse to navigate to the file. Optionally, enter enter a description for the attachment.

By default, Dimensions CM adds the following description:

    Attachment created <date> by <user ID>

    Click Next.

  7. On the Summary page, review the operations to run when creating the request.

To save a draft of the request, select Save to my draft request list.

  8. Click Finish.
