Customize views

You can choose which object classes to display in the content windows and which attributes to display.

Add object classes to a view

You can add object classes to a selected view and change the order in which they are displayed.

To add an object class to a view:

  1. In the desktop client, select Tools > Customize Views. The Customize Views dialog box opens.

  2. In the right pane of the Views tab, select the object class whose view you want to customize.

    The available object classes are displayed in the left pane.

    Note: You can have only one secondary object class or only three related object classes in a view. For some views, there is no secondary object class.

  3. To add a secondary object class when there is already a secondary object class included, or to add a related object class when there are already three related object classes included, first remove the existing secondary object class or one of the three related object classes.

  4. In the left pane, select the object class to add. If you are adding a secondary object class, its type is indicated either by a design part icon or a project/stream icon.

  5. Click Add >>>. The object class moves to the list in the right pane.

  6. To move the object class farther up in the view, click the Up button. To move the object class down in the view, click the Down button.

    Note: By default, the first related object class in the list is displayed in a tiled pane on the top right of the content window, and the others are displayed under it in tabbed panes.

  7. To customize the attributes for the object class, follow the instructions in this topic for how to customize the attribute display for an object class in a view.

  8. Click OK to save the changes.

Remove object classes from a view

Remove object classes from a selected view if you rarely need them.

To remove an object class from a view:

  1. In the desktop client, select Tools > Customize Views. The Customize Views dialog box opens.

  2. In the right pane of the Views tab, select the object class whose view you want to customize.

  3. Expand the top-level icon and select the object class to remove from the view.

  4. Click <<< Remove.

    The object class moves to the list in the left pane.

  5. Click OK button to save the changes.

Make an object class active or inactive

Note: Only related object classes can be made inactive. The Primary object class, and the Secondary object class, if present, always remain active.

To make an object class in a view active or inactive:

  1. In the desktop client, select Tools > Customize Views. The Customize Views dialog box opens.

  2. In the right pane of the Views tab, select the object class whose view you want to customize.

  3. Expand the top-level icon and select the object class to make active or inactive. The status of the object class is indicated by the icon at the top right of the object icon, for example:

    • active:active_item_icon.gif

    • inactive:inactive_icon_item.gif

  4. Click the Off button to make the object class inactive, or click the On button to make it active.

  5. Click OK to save the changes.

Customize the attribute display

You can change how attributes are displayed for an object class.

To customize the attribute display for an object class in a view:

  1. In the desktop client, select Tools > Customize Views. The Customize Views dialog box opens.

  2. In the right pane of the Views tab, select the object class whose view you want to customize.

  3. Expand the top-level icon and select the object class whose attributes you want to customize.

    The System Defined and User Defined icons are displayed in the left pane. Expand the icons to view the corresponding attributes. These are the available attributes for the object class.

  4. Expand the icon for the object class within the view in the right pane. The attributes currently to be displayed in the view are displayed under it.

  5. Do one of the following:

    • To add an attribute, select the attribute on the left-hand side and click Add. The attribute moves from the left-hand side of the Views tab to the right-hand side.

      Note: Single-value single-field and single-value multi-field attributes can be added but multi-value multi-field attributes cannot be added. (They are not shown in the list).

    • To remove an attribute, select the attribute on the right-hand side and click Remove. The attribute moves from the right-hand side of the Views tab to the left-hand side.

    • To change the order of an attribute to the left or right in the view, select it on the right-hand side and click the Up button to move it further up in the list and click the Down button to move it further down.

      Note: If the object class is displayed in a Tree View, only a single attribute can be shown. Therefore, if you want to see a different attribute (e.g. in a Design Part tree, to see the Part Number instead of the Part Specification), first remove the attribute currently displayed.

  6. Click OK to save the changes.
