Log in to desktop client
This topic explains how to log in to the Dimensions CM desktop client or a remote node, create a login profile, or change password.
Login credentials
To access the Dimensions CM desktop client, you need the following information:

The name of the Dimensions CM server.

(Optional) The port number used to run Dimensions CM.
-
The network protocol used by the server: SDP, HTTP, or HTTPS.
-
The database name of the Dimensions CM product you are working with.
-
The connection string for the database.
-
If you are accessing files and directories on a remote node, the username and password for an account on the remote node.
Log in to desktop client
You can access the desktop client with your user ID and password or using smart card authentication.
To log in to the desktop client with user ID and password:

Launch the desktop client.

(Optional) Select a Profile.
-
For User ID, enter a Dimensions CM username.

For Password, enter the password for the user.

Enter the Server name and, optionally, the port number to connect to:
SDP protocol <server name[:port]>
HTTP protocol http://<server name[:port]>
HTTPS protocol https://<server name[:port]>

For DB Name, enter the Dimensions CM database name.

For DB Connection, enter the database connection string.

To log in automatically in future sessions, select Enable automatic log in. This option is available only if enabled by your administrator.

Click Log in.
To log in to the desktop client using smart card authentication:

Launch the desktop client.

Select Smart Card.
-
If you have not previously supplied your PIN, enter the PIN and click OK.

(Optional) Select a different certificate from the Certificate list, or browse to select one. Then click OK.

Enter the Server name and, optionally, the port number to connect to:
SDP protocol <server name><:port>
HTTP protocol http://<server name><:port>
HTTPS protocol https://<server name><:port>

For DB Name, enter the Dimensions CM database name.

For DB Connection, enter the database connection string.

To log in automatically in future sessions, select Enable automatic log in. This option is available only if enabled by your administrator.

Click Log in. You may be prompted to enter your PIN again.
Log in to another server from desktop client
You can access another Dimensions CM server without exiting the desktop client.
To log in to another server from the desktop client:

Log in to the desktop client.
-
Select File > Log Out.

Provide login credentials and connection details, as described in Log in to desktop client.

Click Log in.
Log in to remote node
You can log in to a remote node from the desktop client. If you are logging in to the remote node for the first time, add the node to the list of existing remote network nodes.
To log in to a remote node:

Log in to the desktop client.

Select File > Remote Node Log In.

In the Remote Node Log In dialog box, select the network node to connect to.
If you are logging in to the remote node for the first time, click Add to add the node to the list of physical nodes. In the Add Remote File Node dialog box, enter the name of the remote node, and click OK .

For User ID, enter your username for the remote node.

For Password, enter your password for the remote node.

To log in to Dimensions CM automatically in future sessions, select Log in automatically. This option is available only if enabled by your administrator.

To save your user credentials and automatic login settings for all remote nodes, select Save settings for all nodes.
Note: You can save settings for all nodes only if the Authorize Automatic Remote Login option is set for your user in the Administration Console > User and Group Registration.

Click Log in.
Access the Login dialog box during automatic login
If you have enabled automatic login to the desktop client, you can still access the Login dialog box if needed.
To open the Login dialog box during automatic login:
Press CTRL, and from the Windows Start menu, select Start > Dimensions CM <version> > Desktop Client.
Create login profile
A login profile stores your login information except your password. Use a login profile for a quicker access to the desktop client.
To create a login profile:

In the Login dialog box, from the Profile list, select New.

Select Save settings.
-
In the Profile field, change the profile name to the one you want to use for the new profile.

Provide details in the remaining fields.

Click OK.
To use a login profile:

In the Login dialog box, from the Profile list, select a profile.

In the Password field, enter your password.
-
Click Connect.
Change password
When you are logged in to the desktop client, you can change your password.
Note: You can change the password only for a UNIX server with enabled LDAP or a Windows server.
To change your password:

Log in to the desktop client.
-
Select File > Change password.

In the Change Password dialog box, enter the following information:
Field Description For server/node Select the server node for which you want to change your password. Current Password Enter your current password. New Password Enter your new password. Confirm Password Enter the new password again. -
Click OK.
Change user interface profile
When you are logged in, you can switch to another user interface profile.
To change your user interface profile:

Log in to the desktop client.
-
Click the icon next to the status bar, and select a profile from the list.
Note: The list of profiles is available only if your administrator has set up multiple UI profiles for your user.
