Run and use client reports
This topic explains how to run, export, and view client reports in the desktop client.
Run client report
After a client report is saved, you can run it.
To run a saved client report:
-
Click a report name in the Reports and Lists navigation window area.
-
Right-click a report name in the Reports and Lists navigation window area, and select Run.
After the report finishes running, it is displayed in the desktop client's right-hand content window. There you can perform all the normal Dimensions CM operations for a given object class.
For certain report types, you can drill down into the results. For details, see Drill down into client report.
Note: If the report was created to prompt for a runtime value or relationship, you need to specify that first before running the report.
Export client report
After a client report is saved, you can export it to a BMP or CSV file.
Depending on the report type, you can export a client report exported to:
-
A standalone BMP image file.
-
A standalone comma-separated variables (CSV) file suitable for importing into a third-party tool, for example, a spreadsheet.
To export a client report:
-
Select and run a report, as described in Run client report.
-
Click the export button on the toolbar.
-
In the Export As dialog box, specify the appropriate file name and folder.
-
Drill down into client report
You can drill down into a client report to view underlying data.
Because client reports may contain large amounts of data, displaying all the information in one report may not be the clearest way. For all types of reports except simple listing reports, Dimensions CM first creates a top-level report that displays only summarized data. Certain areas on these summary reports are mouse-sensitive, enabling you to drill down. This is the concept of a drilldown report.
Drilldown reporting makes reports highly interactive, as it enables you to zoom in from a more general view of a business perspective to a more granular one at a simple click of the mouse.
After you drill down, the object class report entries for the underlying data (for example, the Dimensions CM items contained in the report) are displayed in the desktop client main content window, as for a listing report.
After the report object class contents, for example, items, populate a main display content window, all the normal desktop client operations, such as item check out and check in, are available.
