Add Item dialog box

Use this dialog box to create a new item by adding a file to Dimensions CM.

On the General tab, specify the file name and related requests of the new item.

Location to add from

 

 

item file

Select this option if the item consists of a single file.

 

directory label

Select this option if you want to create a single item consisting of a folder together with its files and subdirectories.

 

virtual item

Select this option if you want to create an item with no content. Virtual items are primarily used for controlling hardware configuration items, rather than software.

 

location

Enter the name of the file or folder that you want to store as an item, or click the Browse button to find it.

 

Item Description

Type a description for the new item.

 

After Item Added

To leave the file in your work area folder, select Leave workfile as read only.

To delete the file in your work area, select Delete workfile.

 

Owning Design Part

Enter, or accept, the name of the design part to own the new item. Or click the Browse button and use the Selection wizard to find a design part.

  • If you have set a default design part for the project, the default is that design part.

  • If there is no default design part for the project, the owning design part is determined from the Upload Rules, if any.

  • If the default value is subsequently undetermined, the top design part for the product is used.

Related Requests

Enter the name of one or more requests, or click the Browse button and use the Selection wizard to find requests.

 

Advanced Options

The fields described below are only displayed after you click the link.

Click the link to show or hide the Advanced Options.

Item ID

Enter the ID of the new item, or accept the default value of <auto-generate>.

Note: You cannot use the following characters in the item ID: . ; - ' @ ` :

If your process model rules are set to automatically generate the item ID from the project file name, leave as <auto-generate>.

Project Filename

Enter the file name of the new item, or accept the default value of <auto-generate>.

If set to <auto-generate>, Dimensions CM generates a project file name using the project root folder name and the name of the file that is added.

Item Type

Select or accept the item type.

The default item type is determined by your process model.

Data Format

Select or accept the item format.

The default item format is determined by your process model.

Item Variant

Enter the item variant, or accept the default.

The default is the variant for the product.

Branch

If required, select the branch for the new item, or leave as <default>.

The value <default> defaults to:

  • The user’s project default branch if one is set.

  • The default branch for the project if no default branch is set.

  • No branch if there is no default branch.

Revision

Enter the initial version number to be used for the item.

The default is the default revision for the project.

Revision Description

Enter a description for the revision.

The default is Initial revision.
