LoadRunner Enterprise Administration basics

Use LoadRunner Enterprise Administration to perform all site, project, and lab administration tasks.

After the LoadRunner Enterprise administrator has configured the site, created projects and users, and set up test resources and assets, users can use LoadRunner Enterprise to schedule and execute tests on remote hosts without requiring further administrator intervention.

Administrator user types

The following table lists the administrator user groups in LoadRunner Enterprise, and the modules that they can access in LoadRunner Enterprise Administration:

User Group	Module Access
Site Admin	Full access to all modules in LoadRunner Enterprise Administration. Note: The first site administrator user created in LoadRunner Enterprise during installation cannot be deleted or modified by any other site administrator user, including by him/herself.
Tenant Admin	Restricted access in LoadRunner Enterprise Administration. The System Health, Servers, and File Repository tab in the Site Configuration module are not available. Restricted privileges on public hosts. These include not being able to add, import, delete, or reboot hosts, configure the LoadRunner Enterprise agent, change host general settings, or change any of the following host details: Purpose, Status, Host Installation, Source, Priority, Location, MI Listener, or SSL Enabled. LoadRunner Enterprise 2021 R2 only: Read-only permissions on the Licenses module, except for license keys which are hidden. Read-only permissions on the Hosts module, except for permissions to reconfigure hosts (in the Hosts tab), add pools and locations (in the Pools and Locations tabs), and assign hosts to pools (in the Pools tab). Note: The Tenant Admin user can only configure his or her authentication.  A user that logs on as a Tenant Admin user cannot see Site Admin users.
Admin Viewer	Read-only permissions in LoadRunner Enterprise Administration. While the Admin Viewer is able to perform actions that do not affect the database (such as filter/sort grids and generate reports), all other functionality (such as add, delete, and update) is not available. Note: A user that logs on as an Admin Viewer user cannot see Site Admin or Tenant Admin users.

Key tasks

This section lists the key administration tasks that can be performed in LoadRunner Enterprise Administration.

System administration
Security Passphrase	Update the Communication Security passphrase on the LoadRunner Enterprise server and hosts. For details, see Update the Communication Security passphrase.

Project and user management

Hosts	Host. Create and modify the testing hosts LoadRunner Enterprise uses to run server-side tests. For details, see Manage hosts. Pools. Create and modify pools of testing hosts. Host pools are assigned to LoadRunner Enterprise projects. For details, see Manage host pools. Locations. Define the locations which can be assigned to testing hosts. Analysis servers	Manage analysis database servers which enhance online graph views and capabilities, and provide data for offline graphs. For details, see Manage analysis servers.

Initial configuration

Immediately after installing the LoadRunner Enterprise server and hosts, the relevant component's configuration tool opens, prompting you for initial configuration settings. If any parts of the configuration were skipped, you must configure the settings manually before you can start working with LoadRunner Enterprise.

You can perform the configuration by running the configuration tool on the relevant machine, or alternatively by defining the settings manually in LoadRunner Enterprise Administration.

1. Prerequisites

   The Database server, LoadRunner Enterprise server, and LoadRunner Enterprise hosts must be installed according to instructions provided in the LoadRunner Enterprise Installation Guide.

2. Create a LoadRunner Enterprise project

   1. Log onto LoadRunner Enterprise Administration as described in Log onto LoadRunner Enterprise Administration.

   2. On the LoadRunner Enterprise sidebar, select Management > Projects.

   3. Create your project and configure the limits and other settings for the project. For details, see Create domains and projects and Manage projects.

3. Add the LoadRunner Enterprise license and the host license

   1. On the LoadRunner Enterprise Administration sidebar, select Configuration > Licenses.

   2. Click Add License and add the LoadRunner Enterprise license, and then the host license. For interface details, see View the Licenses page.

4. Add LoadRunner Enterprise hosts to the system

   On the LoadRunner Enterprise Administration sidebar, select Maintenance > Hosts, and click Create New Host . For details, see Add a host.

Log onto LoadRunner Enterprise Administration

This task describes how to launch LoadRunner Enterprise Administration on your machine from your Web browser.

1. Open your Web browser (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Edge, Firefox and Safari are supported) and type the LoadRunner Enterprise Administration URL in the following format:

   http://<LoadRunner_Enterprise_Server_name>/admin

   The LoadRunner Enterprise Administration Login window opens.

2. In the User Name box, type your user name. Only a Site or Tenant Admin user can log on to LoadRunner Enterprise Administration. For details, see Administrator user types.

   Note: The first time you log in to LoadRunner Enterprise Administration, you must use the site administrator name that you specified during the installation of LoadRunner Enterprise. After you log in to LoadRunner Enterprise Administration, you can define additional site administrators. For details, see Define a LoadRunner Enterprise site administrator.

3. In the Password box, type the site administrator password.

   Note: If you are logging in using your internal LoadRunner Enterprise password, you can reset the password by clicking Forgot or want to change your password (this is not applicable when using LDAP or SSO authentication).

4. Select the language for displaying the LoadRunner Enterprise user interface.

   The multilingual user interface, or MLU, provides support for multiple languages on a single instance of LoadRunner Enterprise without having to install language packs. Supported languages are English, French, Italian, Korean, German, Japanese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish.

5. Click the Login button. LoadRunner Enterprise Administration opens.

Display customized welcome screen on login

If you want to have a customized message appearing when end users log onto a LoadRunner Enterprise project for the first time, perform the following:

1. Design the screen message

   On the LoadRunner Enterprise server, open the welcome.html file located in <LoadRunner Enterprise Server path>\PCWEB\Welcome\, and design it to display the custom html message (the html should be text only, with no objects such as images or attachment files).

2. Enable the screen on login

   Open the web.config file located in <LoadRunner Enterprise Server path\PCWEB\, and set the WelcomePageFeatureEnabled parameter to true (it is set to False by default).

Unlock entities and manage unlocking jobs

Supported in versions: LoadRunner Enterprise 2021 R1 and later

The Entity Unlocker is a standalone application that can be used to unlock entities. Entities are locked when they are being edited, where a browser is closed without a proper logout, or where a network is down. Lockable entities include tests, scripts, monitor profiles, and analysis templates.

As a site administrator, you can:

• Use the Entity Unlocker application to view and unlock entities locked by any user on a specific domain and project (a regular user can only unlock an entity that was locked by that user).

• Manage the unlocking job from LoadRunner Enterprise Administration which automatically unlocks entities that have not been updated after a specified amount of time.

The Entity Unlocker application integrates securely with LoadRunner Enterprise when SSO authentication is enabled on the LoadRunner Enterprise server. For details, see SSO authentication.

Use the Entity Unlocker

You can perform the following Entity Unlocker tasks:

Action	How to
Download Entity Unlocker	For details, see Download standalone applications.
Schedule periodic unlocking jobs	In LoadRunner Enterprise Administration, click Maintenance > System Health. Select the Maintenance Tasks tab. Click the Entity Unlocking Task link to open the Entity Unlocker scheduling job, and configure the following settings: Set the frequency of the maintenance task in the Recurrence (min) field. Specify the amount of time after which the maintenance task unlocks any locked entity in the Value box for the TIMEOUT_UNLOCK parameter. By default, both of these values are set to 120 minutes.
Manually unlock entities	Log on to the Entity Unlocker application as a Site Admin user. You can see all locked entities in the various projects and domains. Unlock any locked entity as required.
View Entity Unlocker log files	The Entity Unlocker log files are created in the \orchidtmp\LTLogger\EntityUnlocker folder. When running on a machine with LoadRunner Enterprise server, a load generator, or Analysis, the log is created in the <LRE Server, Host, or Analysis installation directory>\orchidtmp\LTLogger\EntityUnlocker\ folder. Example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Micro Focus\LoadRunner Enterprise\orchidtmp\LTLogger\EntityUnlocker On a machine that does not have any of these products installed, the log is created in the <Entity Unlocker installation directory>\orchidtmp\LTLogger\EntityUnlocker folder. Example: C:\tools\EntityUnlocker\orchidtmp\LTLogger\EntityUnlocker\

Set the color theme

You can set the color theme for the LoadRunner Enterprise Administration user interface. The default is a light theme which features a white background with black text. There is also a dark theme with bright elements and easy-to-see colors.

To switch between themes:

1. In the LoadRunner Enterprise Administration navigation toolbar, click and select Accessibility.

2. In the Theme section, select Standard or Dark mode.
