View portfolio dependencies

Understanding the dependencies associated with portfolio backlog items helps portfolio managers make better prioritization and scheduling decisions.

Portfolio dependency relationships

A portfolio backlog item may have the predecessor and successor relationships with other portfolio backlog items, as well as entities including requests, projects, programs, and project tasks.

  • Predecessor: Action is not allowed on one entity until the referenced entity closes.
  • Successor: Action is not allowed on the referenced entity until the entity closes.

For details, see References and relationships.

The predecessor and successor relationships are considered portfolio dependencies and are viewable from the following tabs:

  • Dependencies: Displays dependencies associated with all backlog items in a portfolio.
  • Backlog: Displays dependencies for each portfolio backlog item.
