Configure Backlog tab

You can change the name of the Backlog tab, decide which entities can be directly created within a portfolio, which columns are available for selection in the Backlog tab, and how the tab is displayed when opened for the first time.

Configure portfolio Backlog tab

You can configure the Backlog tab for portfolios that use a certain portfolio type, or for a single portfolio.

To configure the Backlog tab:

  1. To configure the Backlog tab for portfolios that use a specific portfolio type, open the portfolio type.

    To configure the Overview tab for a specific portfolio, open the portfolio, click ... > Portfolio Settings in the top-right corner.

  2. In the Tabs section, click the settings icon on the Backlog tab.

    Note: The settings icon is available only when you select to display the Backlog tab in a portfolio by dragging the tab to the Selected Tabs area. For details, see Set up portfolio tabs.

  3. Do the following to configure the Backlog tab:

Change tab name

You can change the display name of the Backlog tab to fit your business needs.

To change the tab name, enter a new name in the Change Tab Name field. The new name applies to all portfolios that are created using this portfolio type.

Set entity type in backlog

Set which types of entities can be directly created within a portfolio.

To set entity type in backlog:

  1. In the Set Entity Type and Columns section, click .

  2. In the Set Entity Type and Columns page, the Set Entity Type in Backlog section, click + Add.

  3. From the drop-down list, select the types of entities that can be created directly within a portfolio.

    The following entity types are available:

    • The OOTB entity types: Product (Value Stream), Strategic Portfolio, and Portfolio Epic.
    • All the portfolio types you created in the system.
  4. Click OK.

Set displayed columns

In the portfolio Backlog tab, there are already some predefined columns that portfolio managers can choose to show or hide. In addition to these columns, you can configure which fields portfolio managers can display as columns in the portfolio Backlog tab.

To set the displayed columns:

  1. In the Set Entity Type and Columns section, click .

  2. In the Set Entity Type and Columns page, the Set Columns in Portfolio's Proposals/Projects/Assets section, click + Add.

  3. From the drop-down list, select the columns portfolio managers can choose to display in the portfolio backlog.

  4. Click OK.

Set backlog default layout

Use the following options to set the default layout of the Backlog tab:

Note: If you allow portfolio managers to override the Backlog tab settings in their portfolios, enable the Allow portfolio manager to override the following settings option. Otherwise, portfolio managers cannot edit the Backlog tab settings in their portfolios.

Option Description
Set Portfolio Backlog Default Layout

Set the default layout of the portfolio Backlog tab. The settings include the following:

  • Which view is used
  • Which columns are displayed
  • Column width
  • Column sequence
  • Group-by fields
  • Filters
  • Sorting
Select Aggregable Fields

Click Add to select the fields whose values are aggregated and displayed in the group-by line after portfolio backlogs are grouped.

The aggregable fields are sorted in the same order as they are in the field list.

Default aggregable fields:

  • Approved Budget
  • Forecast Cost
  • Actual Cost
  • Forecast Benefit
  • Actual Benefit
Set Backlog Board View Default Layout

Set how the portfolio backlog Board view is displayed when a user opens the view for the first time.

To set the board's column and swim lane:

Use the Column and Swim Lane drop-down lists to select the board's column and swim lane.

To set the display of Board cards:

  • Click Add to select the information to be displayed on a card.

  • Drag and drop the item on card to adjust the order.

You can preview how the card looks like on the left.
