Installing and using your product securely

OpenText Functional Testing is a desktop application installed on a single computer or on multiple computers in a business network. Security issues are similar to those of other Windows-based applications.

OpenText Functional Testing can potentially be used to record user actions and/or network communications. Therefore, we strongly recommend running it on dedicated test machines that do not contain or provide access to sensitive information. Additionally, you should thoroughly review your lab network topology and access permissions before using this program.

You must have specific permissions when installing and running OpenText Functional Testing. For a list of these permissions, see Required access permissions.

For a list of ports that OpenText Functional Testing uses for communication, see the following knowledge base article: https://portal.microfocus.com/s/article/KM000003271.

When installing, the following security settings are provided:

  • You can install and run OpenText Functional Testing with the computer's User Account Control (UAC) enabled.

  • During installation, you can make the following allowances:

    • Specify whether to configure DCOM settings that enable remote computers to access OpenText Functional Testing to run a test from OpenText Application Quality Management or using automation.

    • Specify whether to change browser policies to allow installing the browser extension that enables testing web applications.

You can also adjust these settings after installation.

  • You can securely store important and sensitive information about the applications you are testing.
