View process timelines

Use Timeline view to gain increased visibility of your release processes and individual process flows.

Process timeline overview

In Timeline view, release processes and process flow items are displayed in a Gantt chart. This visual representation helps you analyze and compare the items' planned versus actual times against the defined process milestones. It also lets you identify the items that failed or are overdue.

Timeline view is also available in other grids. For an overview of timeline view, see Timeline view.

Tip: Use the timescale slider in the toolbar to adjust the scale of the timeline to months, weeks, or days.

Timeline elements

You can view a timeline of all release processes, or a timeline of the process flow within a single release process.

Release processes timeline

The release processes timeline displays the process stages of each release process. To view the release processes timeline, open the Processes grid and click the Show Timeline button .

The release processes timeline includes the following elements.

Element Details
Timeline bars

A timeline bar represents a process. The bar is divided into segments representing the stages of the process The position and length of each segment is set according to the stage start and end dates.

The stages are marked with different colors based on the stage type.

Hover over a segment of the bar to view a tooltip with the corresponding stage's details, such as type, phase, start and end dates, as well as duration.

Tip: You can move between the process stages using the tooltip arrows. Click an arrow, and the bar for the next or preceding stage is highlighted. This helps you move between stages that are remote in the timeline, or identify stages that overlap.

Timeline indicators

If a release process is aborted, the Aborted icon is displayed at the end of the aborted stage's bar.

If a process spans the period beyond the timeline, an arrow is displayed on the bar in the direction that the process continues. You can use the scroll bar to go to the relevant period in the timeline.

Legend

Click the Legend button to view the legend. The legend provides a key for the stage type colors, as well as the timeline indicators.

Note: The legend reflects the default stage types. Your admin can define new stage types by modifying the Stage Type list. For details about lists, see Lists.

Milestones and the current date

The following table provides details about the milestone and current date indicators:

Indicator Representation
Vertical line

The vertical Today line along the timeline represents the current date.

For an item in progress, the corresponding segment is partially filled with color: the part representing the past period is filled, and the future period remains unfilled. This helps you identify items that are planned or already in progress.

Note: The segment remains unfilled if an overdue item is still in the Planned phase.

Diamonds

Diamonds in the timeline represent milestones. The milestone diamonds are displayed next to their associated release processes.

The timeline views display both release-related milestones and the milestones that are not associated with a specific release.

The milestone types are distinguished by the diamonds at the top of the lines:

  • A solid diamond represents a milestone the release process is assigned to.
  • An outlined diamond represents a shared milestone (cross).
  • Overlapping diamonds represent overlapping milestones.

Hover over the diamonds to display the milestone details.

Tip: You can assign the release process to a milestone in the release process's Details tab.
