Manage licenses

You can add, modify, or remove licenses and assign agents to them in the Deployment Automation user interface.

Note: To work with licenses, you need the Manage Licenses permission. Administrators have this permission by default. As an administrator, you can grant this permission in Administration > Security > Role Configuration > DA Server. For details, see Server roles and system security.

License capacity

A license can cover multiple agents. The license capacity is defined by the number of license slots.

Out of the box, Deployment Automation provides a community license for five agents. An agent consumes one license slot.

To obtain a license or increase the capacity of your license, visit the Software Licensing and Downloads portal (requires login). For assistance, contact Licensing Support (requires login) or your OpenText sales representative.

Assign license slots automatically

By default, Deployment Automation automatically assigns unlicensed agents to available license slots when an agent connects to the server. If no slots are available, the agent remains unlicensed.

You configure the automatic licensing in the system settings.

To set up automatic licensing:

  1. In Deployment Automation, navigate to Administration > System and select the System Settings tab. The system settings are displayed in view-only mode.

  2. In the list of system settings, verify that the Automatic License Management option is selected.

  3. To disable automatic licensing, or to enable it back, click Edit. In the System Settings dialog box, clear or select the Automatic License Management option and click Save.

For details about system settings, see Change system settings.

Add agents to a license manually

You can manually add agents to a license, for example, when licenses aren't distributed automatically or you need to reassign an agent to another license.

Also, when no license slots are available, you may release the license from another agent by temporarily removing the agent from Deployment Automation, and then assign the required agent to the released slot.

To add agents to a license manually:

  1. In Deployment Automation, navigate to Administration > System.
  2. In the Licenses tab, click Assign Agents next to the relevant license. The Assign Agents dialog box opens.

  3. Select one or more agents to add to the license. Use search to find agents by name.

  4. Click Add.

The agents are licensed only if there are enough license slots for all the agents.

Modify or remove a license

You may need to update your license instead of adding one. All agents assigned to the license are automatically reassigned to available slots in the new license.

Caution: You cannot perform an update If the new license doesn't have enough slots for all previously assigned agents.

To update a license:

  1. In Deployment Automation, navigate to Administration > System.
  2. In the Licenses tab, click Edit next to the relevant license. The Edit License dialog box opens.
  3. In the New License field, replace the license parameters and key.

  4. (Optional) Update the license description.

  5. Click Save.

To delete a license:

  1. In Deployment Automation, navigate to Administration > System.

  2. In the Licenses tab, click Delete next to the relevant license.

When you remove a license, all agents assigned to it become unlicensed.
