Replication administration

This section explains how to set up replication configurations in the Administration Console.

Replication guidelines

In the Replication Administration section of the Administration Console, you can:

  • Define configurations for replicating items in projects and baselines, and for requests.

  • Define replica sites to receive replications from primary database (DB) sites.

  • View, edit, and delete existing replication configurations.

  • View a list of sent or received transfers.

  • View the details and result of a transferred or received replication.

  • Delete log files for transferred and received replications.

To open Replication Administration, go to Administration Console > Distributed Development > Replication administration. For details, see Replication Administration section.

Guidelines and limitations:

  • To define or edit replication configurations, replication must be enabled for the base database. To enable replication for a base database, go to Administration Console > Distributed Development > Network administration.

  • To define or edit replication configurations that are owned by current base database, you need the ADMIN_REPL privilege.

  • Replicator does not support the use of Dimensions CM streams.

  • For baseline replications, the design part structure, requests, template definitions, and other process model objects (such as types, attributes, or lifecycle definitions) that the baseline might use are not replicated.

  • Replication of design parts is not supported. To transfer design parts between databases, use a separate data transfer utility, PDIFF Import/Export.

  • Replication of requirements information from one Dimensions CM server to another is not supported. However, by carefully coordinating Dimensions CM requests, you can still fully track the fulfillment of requirements in a replicated Dimensions CM environment.

    For details see Administration.

About replication configuration

A replication configuration is the setup information which enables the primary DB site to control and scope the replication process.

The manager of the primary DB site defines the replication configuration that consists of the following:

  • A primary base database site and its named branches for replication.

  • Replica base database sites and the projects in which replicated items are to be placed.

About replication logs

A replication log is a report about the execution of a replication for an item or baseline configuration.

You can view the following replication logs:

  • Project replications sent from this base database.

  • Baseline replications sent from this base database.

  • Request replications sent from this base database.

  • Project replications received by this base database.

  • Baseline replications received by this base database.

  • Request replications received by this base database.

Each log consists of:

  • A transfer record showing the basic properties of the replication.

  • A list of objects that have transferred successfully.

  • A list of objects that have failed to transfer.

For details about viewing replication logs, see View replication logs.
