Modify CM rules and view phase usage

You can update the Change Management rules for a request or item type. For request types, you can view a list of operations allowed at each CM phase.

Note: This functionality is available for items and Dimensions CM requests only.

Edit CM rules

To set Change Management rules, you need the Manage Object Types permission.

To edit the CM rules:

  1. In the Administration Console, go to Configuration Object Management > Object type definitions.

  2. In the Object Types navigation pane, select the item or request type for which you're setting up the CM rules.

  3. In the content pane, select the CM Rules tab.

  4. In the CM Rules section, click the Edit CM Rules button. The Edit CM Rules dialog box opens.

  5. To enforce CM rules, select Yes for the Enable CM Rules field.

  6. Item types: Set the rules to coordinate items with request states:

    Field Description
    Require request for new item Select Yes to allow new items of this type to be created only in response to a valid request.
    Require request when check out at or beyond this state Select the first lifecycle state at which a request is required for checking out a new item revision.
    Require request when action at or beyond this state Select the first lifecycle state at which a request is required for actioning the item.
    Require that item must be at or beyond this state before permit closing of associated request Select the minimum state an item must reach before requests related to it as in response to can close.
  7. Request types: Map lifecycle states to phases and set the dependent request rule:

    Field Description
    Lifecycle phase rules
    Analysis phase starts with State Select the first lifecycle state in the Analysis phase.
    Work phase starts with State Select the first lifecycle state in the Work phase.
    Frozen phase starts with State Select the first lifecycle state in the Frozen phase.
    Dependent request rule
    Minimum state of child before permit parent to close Select the minimum state at which this request must be before any parent request may be closed.
    Allow request to be closed with affected item revisions Select this option to allow requests to be closed or actioned to a Frozen phase without having an in response to item relationship.
  8. Click OK.

View the CM phase usage for requests

For request types, you can view the CM phases and the permitted actions for each of the phases.

To view the CM phase usage:

  1. In the Administration Console, go to Configuration Object Management > Object type definitions.

  2. In the Object Types navigation pane, select the relevant request type.

  3. In the content pane, select the CM Rules tab.

  4. In the CM Rules section, click the View Phase Usage button. The Edit CM Rules dialog box opens.

  5. In the CM Phase Usage dialog box, check which operations are permitted at which phase. For details about the operations and phases, see CM Phase Usage dialog box.

  6. When finished, click Close.
