Relate requests to items

In the Visual Studio IDE, you can add a relationship to one or more items to show a connection between a request and the items.

To relate or unrelate items:

  1. Depending on the request type, do one of the following:

    Type Details
    Dimensions CM requests In the Requests view, right-click a request and select Related. The request opens for browsing, displaying the Related tab.
    External requests In the Requests view, right-click a request and select Relate/Unrelate. The request's Relationships tab opens. 
  2. To remove a related item, select the item and click Remove.

  3. To add a relationship, click Add.

  4. In the Relate Object dialog box, specify the following details:

    Field Description
    Relationship type Select the type of relationship between the request and items: Affected, In Response To, or Information.

    Relate to

    Browse to select one or more items to relate.

    In the Find Item wizard, specify the criteria to search for items, and then select one or more items from the results.

    SHIFT+click to select a range of items. CTRL+click to select multiple non-consecutive items.

    Direction Set the direction of a relationship between the request and the items, such as Child.
  5. Click OK. The items are added to the tree of related items.

  6. To commit changes to the relationships, click Save changes.
