Add command, separator, or submenu

Add a command, separator or submenu when you want to include or arrange menu options to a pulldown or right-click menu or toolbar.

Position command, separator, or submenu

To position a command, separator, or submenu, select the existing element that the new element is to precede. If the new element is to be the last or the only element on a menu/submenu, select the next higher-level node instead.

Note: If you want to add a command or a separator immediately preceding a submenu, you cannot do so directly. You need to add the command/separator somewhere below the submenu and afterward to move this element upwards (as described below) until it precedes the submenu.

To add a submenu immediately preceding a submenu, temporarily add a separator (or a command) and move it into position (as explained above) to act as a "placeholder". Then select it and add the submenu to precede it. Finally, remove the placeholder.

Add command, separator, or submenu

You can add commands, separators, and submenus.

To add a command:

  1. Complete the steps in Change menus and toolbar.

  2. From the Categories list, select the category that contains the command you want to add.

To add a separator:

An entry is displayed as "-----(Separator)-----" in the tree structure. On the menu/submenu, it is displayed as a horizontal line, and on a tool bar it is displayed as a narrow space between the preceding and following icons.

To add a submenu:

Note: You cannot add a submenu on the toolbars.

  1. Click Add Submenu.

An entry is displayed as "-----(Submenu)-----"

  2. Edit this text to your required wording as described below in To edit the name of a command or a submenu.

Bear in mind that this addition is now another node which must be taken into account in the rule (explained above) for placing any further additions.

Define keyboard shortcuts

You can assign keyboard shortcuts to commands and submenus, and change existing shortcuts.

To define a keyboard shortcut:

  1. In the structure tree on the left, select the command or submenu whose keyboard shortcut you want to define or change.

  2. Click Edit Item. The existing wording is highlighted, followed by a cursor.

  3. Insert an "&" (ampersand) preceding the letter to be used if you want to make this command or submenu selectable by typing that letter on the keyboard. (In the menu, this letter is displayed underlined.) To change the letter, delete the existing ampersand and reinsert it before the required letter.

  4. Note that the same letter cannot be used more than once in any one menu or submenu, so if you want this feature to be available, for a given element, you may sometimes need to move the "&" in some of the commands so that it precedes a different letter.

  5. Click End Edit.
