Assign data formats to object types

In the Administration Console, assign data formats to item types to determine in which format items can be added to Dimensions CM. Assign data formats to Dimensions CM request types to define how requests are displayed.

To assign data formats, you need the Manage File Format Definition privilege.

About assigning data formats

Assign data formats to item types to ensure that items are added in the correct format.

For example, C source files are assigned as source code, Word document files—as design documents, and so on. The assignment mappings are in the direction of item type list > data format, which means that a data format is assigned to one or more item types.

Note: If an item type doesn't have a data format assigned, then any format can be used when an item of that type is created, even the format that has not been defined.

Assign data formats to request types to determine how they are displayed. The assigned format and MIME type are used by the web client, desktop client, and IDEs to correctly choose an application/viewer to display the request.
