New/Edit Data Format dialog box

In the New Data Format dialog box, add a data format to the base database.

In the Edit Data Format dialog box, edit the data format details and assign the selected data format to item or request types.

General tab

On the General tab of the New/Edit Data Format dialog box, specify the details of a data format.

Field Description
Data Format Enter a unique name for the data format, up to 25 characters long.
Class

Select a file class from the list.

Default: ASCII.

Compression Level

Select the compression level to apply when getting item revisions that are assigned this data format:

  • No Compression. Compression level 0.

  • Fast Compression. Compression level 1. Performs the compression quickly and uses less memory but is the least compressed.

  • Normal Compression. Compression level 6. A normal degree of compression. A happy medium between fast and best.

  • Best Compression. Compression level 9. The highest but slowest degree of compression.

The compression level is a value passed to the OpenSource zLib compression library to govern how it performs the compression.

Delta Compression (Optional) Select to apply delta compression. For details, see Use delta compression.
MIME Type Enter a valid MIME Type.
Description (Optional) Enter a description for the data format, up to 240 characters long.

Relationships tab

On the Relationships tab of the Edit Data Format dialog box, assign or unassign the selected data format to/from the object types.

Use the toolbar buttons to assign or unassign the data format:

Button Description
Assign the data format to item or request types. For details, see Assign dialog box.
Unassign the selected item types from the data format.

The Object Types section contains a list of all item and request types to which this data format is assigned. For each object type, the following information is displayed:

Field Description

Type Name

The name of the item or request type.

Click the name to edit the item or request type. For details, see Edit Object Type dialog box.

Extension Request types only: The file extension assigned to the request type, if any.
Lifecycle ID The lifecycle associated with the item or request type.
Description The description of the item or request type.
Product The product to which the item or request type belongs.
Scope The type of object, item or request.

Use the buttons at the top right of the Object Types section to perform the following operations:

  • Display an HTML page with a summary of object types to print or save.

  • Display the list of object types as comma-separated values to save as a text file.
