Manage base databases

In the Administration Console, you can assign a base database to a network node. The assignment may be used by Replicator to transfer objects between remote Dimensions CM repositories.

Note: If you are using Replicator, ensure the base databases to which you are replicating and the base database to which you are logged in are correctly registered. If the PCMS_SYS database was imported from another database, the data in pcms_sys.pcms_db_details may need updating the column db_name (to NODENAME-DBCONN) before replication.

Add a base database

You can assign a base database to the current node.

To assign a base database:

  1. In the Administration Console, go to Distributed Development > Network administration > Network nodes.

  2. Select the network node to which to assign the base database.

  3. In the Base Database section, click the New Object button.

  4. In the New Base Database dialog box, enter the following information:

    Field Description
Base Database Name Enter the name of the base database, up to 25 characters long.
Description (Optional) Enter a description of the base database, up to 240 characters long.
    DB Connection

Specify the network instance for the database. Select an existing instance, or create a new one by entering a string in the field. Use up to 240 characters.

    For example: DIM14

Note: To change this value for an existing base database association, first unassign the base database and then create a new base database association.

Dimensions Release Version Specify the version number of the Dimensions CM release, up to 20 characters long. For example: 14.7.
Replication Enabled (Optional) Enable or disable replication for this database.
Contact (Optional) Enter the name of the contact for the base database.
Dimensions Root Directory (Optional) Specify the Dimensions CM installation folder.
    Site No

(Optional) Enter a unique number to identify the base database on your network. It is used to generate unique sequence numbers for requests.

When used for replications, make sure this number is consistent across all replication sites.

  5. Click OK to add the base database to the node.

Edit or unassign a base database

You can edit a base database or unassign it from the node.

To edit or unassign a base database:

  1. In the Administration Console, go to Distributed Development > Network administration > Network nodes.

  2. Select the node to which the base database is assigned.

  3. In the content pane, in the Base Database section, select the base database.

  4. To edit the base database, click Edit base database. In the Edit Base Database dialog box, update the details, and click OK:

    Field Description
Description (Optional) Update a description of the base database, up to 240 characters long.
Dimensions Release Version Specify the version number of the Dimensions CM release. For example: 14.7.
Replication Enabled (Optional) Enable or disable replication for this database.
Contact (Optional) Enter the name of the contact for the base database.
Dimensions Root Directory (Optional) Specify the Dimensions CM installation folder. Use up to 1024 characters.
    Site No

(Optional) Enter a unique number to identify the base database on your network. It is used to generate unique sequence numbers for requests.

When used for replications, make sure this number is consistent across all replication sites.

  5. To cancel the base database assignment, click the Deassign base database button in the content pane, and confirm.

Note: If the option Replication Enabled is selected, you need to disable the option before you can cancel the assignment of the base database. To clear the option, edit the base database.
