Screen elements

Familiarize yourself with the basic screen elements in ALM Octane.

Modules menu

Open the menu to access ALM Octane's modules.

To open the menu, click the three bars in the top right corner.

Top banner

The top banner contains the following buttons:

Button Description
Search Search for any item in your workspace. For details, see Search.
Favorites Save grid settings as favorites that you can return to and share. For details, see Grids.
My Work View and handle your assigned work in a personalized todo list. For details, see My Work.
Settings

Perform the following actions:

Help Links to the Help Center, the online community, and other useful resources.
Programs If programs are enabled, switch to a different program context. For details, see Programs.
Workspaces If you have access to more than one workspace, switch to another workspace. For details, see Space/workspace overview.
User avatar

Choose your language and theme, and upload a picture. For details, see Set personal preferences.

Module views

Module views consist of the following panes (left-to-right):

Pane Description
Entity tree

In the following sub-modules, the left pane consists of an expandable tree of items:

  • Requirements: Requirements tree

  • Backlog: Backlog tree

  • Quality, Pipelines: Application modules tree

Expand and select a tree folder or item. The selected item is reflected in the data displayed in the central pane.

Main pane

The main pane consists of tabs, each displaying different information.

  • Overview tab. The Backlog and Quality modules contain an Overview tab containing a customizable dashboard of widgets. For details, see Dashboard.

  • Grid tabs. Many of the tabs display grids that you can filter, sort, and group. For details, see Grids.

    Click an item's ID to open it in full-page view. For details, see Full-page view.

Right sidebar

The right sidebar enables other interactions with the items in the main pane. Standard sidebars include Filter and Preview .

Your environment can contain custom sidebars developed for your workspace. For details, see Create sidebar plugins.

To hide the sidebar, click the Close button X.

If the sidebar is hidden, click one of the sidebar icons to open it.

You can choose which of the sidebar icons are displayed in the toolbar. Click Manage sidebars and toggle sidebars on or off.

Full-page view

For an item's full details, you can open the item in full-page view. The full-page view includes the following elements:

Element Description
Back button Returns to the module view from which you arrived at the current item.
Breadcrumbs The chain of the items that you clicked through to arrive at the current item. Click on any of the links to return to a previous item.
Follow button Follow the item to receive notifications about changes made to the item. For details, see Follow items.
m out of n If you arrived at the item from a grid, use the back and forward arrows to move to the previous or next item in the list.
Phase selector Click the next phase to move the item into its next stage. For details, see Phases.
Details tab

The Details tab contains the following:

  • Fields. The fields are organized in collapsible sections. Click Customize fields to add or remove fields from the standard form. Fields that you add are included in the More section. Your customizations are saved for next time. For details, see Forms and templates.

  • Tags. Assign tags to the item.

  • Related users. The item's stakeholders, including Owner and Created by.

Relations tab A diagram of the items related to the current item. For details, see Connected items.
Backlog Items tab

The item's child backlog items.

Available for: Epics and features. Epics also have a Features tab, which shows the child features of the epic.

Tasks tab

Tasks related to the item. For details, see Work on your stories.

Available for: Backlog items.

Development tab If you have set up your source control management (SCM) system to work with ALM Octane, this tab shows code commits, pull requests, and branches associated with the current item. For details, see Analyze development in your SCM system.
Tests tab Tests associated with the item. For details, see Testing overview.
Attachments tab Uploads relating to the item. Attachments include also images that are embedded in the item's description. For more details, see Attachments.
History tab A record of the changes made to the item's fields. For details, see History.

Quick actions

Use the Quick Action shortcut (CTRL+Q) from anywhere in ALM Octane to navigate to any tab, or perform relevant actions.

The list of quick actions is filtered according to your current context.

In the action box, start typing the name of an action. Select an action from the suggestions.
