Programs

Workspace admins can organize workspaces into virtual categories called programs. This is particularly useful for supporting Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Large Solution configuration. You can assign items to programs, and then filter, rank, and analyze items according to their associated programs.

Overview

In SAFe, a program represents an ongoing system development mission.

For example, in a private banking workspace, you might create programs called DirectPay, MyAccount Mobile, MyAccount Web, Services, and Back Office.

Programs are defined within a workspace. You can associate the following entities with programs: Releases, teams, backlog items, application modules, pipelines, tests, and runs.

When viewing a grid or list of items, you can filter by programs using the Program filter in the banner. For details, see Filters.

Create programs

Create programs for a workspace.

To create programs:

  1. Open the Settings menu and select Spaces.

  2. Select a workspace.

  3. Click Programs.

  4. Click + Program to add a program.

Tip: After you create programs, you can go to the Entities tab and edit the forms for the relevant entities to include the Program field. This enables users to associate entities, such as teams, defects, or tests, with their related programs. For details on editing entity forms, see Custom forms.

After setting the Program field for a backlog item, you can assign the item only to teams that are associated with the same program, or to teams with no program association.
