Manage client/server connections

You can establish access from a Dimensions CM client node to a server node.

Create a client/server connection

In Dimensions CM networking terms, a client node is the node where the server is located, and the server node is the node where the Dimensions CM listener is located. This connection enables a client to access the item libraries and user files on the server.

To create a connection:

  1. In the Administration Console, go to Distributed Development > Network administration > Node connections.

  2. On the toolbar, click New.

  3. In the Register Client Server Connection dialog box, enter the connection details:

    Field Description
    Client Node

Select the network client that requires access to the server node.

For details on how to add nodes, see Create and modify nodes.

    Server Node

Select the network server that hosts network-accessible Dimensions CM item libraries.

For details on how to add nodes, see Create and modify nodes.

Server Logical Node (Optional) Enter the name of the logical node associated with the server.
Protocol (Optional) Select the network protocol used to facilitate access between the client and the server. Select SDP for the standard network protocol or SSLSDP if an SSL network protocol is being used.
    Network Object

Select the network object to facilitate the connection.

For details about defining network objects, see Manage network objects.

File System (Optional) Specify the file system for the registered operating system.
Code Set (Optional) Specify the code set or code page used to encode characters.
    Direct File Copy

(Optional) Where possible, this option enables direct file transfers between two nodes, offering performance enhancements.

Example: A Dimensions CM client and the item library are physically located on the same node and there are no firewall issues with respect to communication between the client and the item library area nodes.

  4. Click OK to add the connection.
